Advantages: Small, Advanced, Light Weight
Disadvantages: Crashes, Video Length (9sec)
I purchased the Nokia 6600 in mid February 2004 from 02 on contract. I chose the phone as I had read many good reviews and enjoyed the large range of features. Since I have bought the phone I have had few problems, but nothing worth writing about although I have heard of many 6600's with software faults. A friend of mine is now on his 3rd 6600 due to these. Features: Colour Screen - The colour screen is absolutely superb! A lot of detail can be seen and the colours are very vibrant. I cannot praise the screen enough! No complaints there. Speakers - The speakers on the Nokia 6600 are brilliant. You can get some really superb quality audio and they can be quite loud indeed. The quality of the speakers means you can add music to the phone and play to your heart's content! 10/10 Camera - The camera is overall very good. The picture quality is good for a camera of it's size (640x480) and shows much detail. The night vision mode on the camera is also very good as long as there is a small amount of light to work with. The average file size of the pictures are around 32kb which is amazing for the quality and size! This leaves a lot of room for videos and other media. There is however a small delay of around 1sec when taking a picture which is annoying when in a rush or capturing a fast moving object. Another small problem is the camera is incapable of taking pictures of items less than 50cm away, so no close ups are possible. The camera has an inbuilt 2x digital zoom but this is nothing to rave about as the quality is degraded a lot. Overall the camera is great but not superb. You will be surprised how often you use the camera, I was! Video Camcorder - The video function on the 6600 is basic. The quality of the video is reasonable at most. You have the option to zoom 2x when recording but I would advise against this as the quality of the video is extremely poor and very pixelated. The video can become jerky
at times which is annoying. However, the most annoying thing about the video recorder is you can only record 9 seconds of footage! Because of this, the camera doesn't come in handy too often. I cannot understand why Nokia have restricted the video length as a 9sec video is under 100kb! The audio captured when recording is satisfactory. On a scale of 10 I would give the Video Recorder feature 3. Audio Recording - The audio recording on the 6600 is average. It is good enough to record a ringtone or something like that. You can record for 1 minute which is ok. The audio files are saved as AMR which gives a small file size with reasonable quality. Recording dance music or music with a high bpm isn't worth it, it will sound like a blur of noise. The audio feature is above average overall. If you wish to put full, great quality songs onto the phone, download the Nokia Media Converter and convert your mp3's to AMR MB. The file is compressed to about one fifth and the quality is superb! Almost sounds like the original mp3! All of the Nokia 6600's features are very good with exception of the video recorder. I would suggest to anybody to buy this phone if you want some very cool features to show off with. If however you just want a phone to call and receive calls on, stick with something a little cheaper like the Alcatel 735 from Orange. If any of you are thinking about purchasing this phone, please, please, please get insurance on it! The screen of my 6600 recently broke and it cost £125 to repair! Do not make the same mistake I did. Overal, I would give the phone 7.5/10
