Advantages: Nice Looking, Flip the case at a touch of a button

Disadvantages: No changable fascia's

Right here we go I am going to babble on about a phone this time ladies and gentlemen. The Nokia 7110 is a cool phone but for the detailed and funny side to this handset see below.

What can the phone do exactly?

I do ask myself this question every time I go to pick it up and call someone.

1) Text messaging: The text messaging on this phone is not better than any other Nokia I have used to this day. When you go onto the menu screen it is there, however you do not get the option to see your Inbox. To do this you must push in the Jog-Dial (This is the little scrolley thingy in the middle of the phone nearest to the Screen) which will then let you into the main messages folders. The brilliant thing about the text messaging menu is that you can create folders (Say if you had a text message from someone called Jai you could create a folder called Jai and store her messages in there for future reference). Also another thing about the messaging menu is that you would have to go the long way to get predictive text messaging (Predictive Text Messaging is hard to use for a beginner. Take this example:

If you wanted to write: (HELLO) you would need to hit the keys 43556. Instead of using the normal way for message.
If you were to say (HELLO) using the normal combination you would enter 4433555555666. In my knowledge of using this handset the predictive way is the easiest. It saves you time in writing those irritating messages out long hand and it saves time.

2) Call Register: This is an essential part of the phone which allows you to see who you have called, what numbers you have missed and most importantly those received calls. This menu works on the same methods as the Text Messaging menu but the difference being is that this is only for CALLS Incoming, Outgoing and Missed.
If you wanted to you can erase the whole log of numbers in your handset. If you get confused in seeing who called you when, this might just be the best feature in this sub-menu for you.

3) Profiles: This is a great menu. You can change the way your phone behaves when using a certain profile. Say for example I had a headache and I wanted to cut out the ringing altogether. I would select the SILENT function. Likewise if I wanted to turn I wanted to turn the ringing volume up I could do so by using the LOUD profile. You can even personalize these profiles. If you didn’t like the ringing tone you have currently you can change it to another that you do like. With this function you can even have different caller group ringtones. Say if you wanted to choose a ringtone for your group you would simply do the following:

Group ringer: Jai, Mark, George, Dolly and Daniel. The ringer was on Limp Bizkit. Hold on a minute, I don’t like Limp Bizkit let’s change the ringer to Will Young for this group. There that’s how easy it is to change the profile. It’s as easy as your ABC's.

4) Settings: Without having any settings on your phone, it just wouldn’t work to the maximum that it should do.
Within this menu you will be able to change the settings to the following:

Time Settings: You could set the alarm for the early morning and Change the current clock time.

Call settings: Have any key answer, Automatic Redial, Speed Dialing, Call waiting service (Subject to Network compatibility), Summary after call, Fax and Data Call (As this handset has a built in 28.8k Modem) and you can even choose whether to send your own number when making an outgoing call.

Phone Settings: Have any language you require (there is a wide selection), A welcome note for when you switch your mobile phone on, Network Selection (I am still not sure what this is used for) and Change to function of the Jog-Dial.

Communication Settings: Your own Information Service, Option to call the answerphone and Change the answerphone number.

Security Settings: Within this menu you can change your PIN code (This is the code to lock your phone out from unauthorized persons), Call Barring ( subject to network compatibility), Change all of the necessary codes including the Security Code, Pin Code, Pin2 Code and the call barring code.

If after fiddling with these options you can restore them back to their factory default settings. This is a great way of re-setting your handset just in case anything goes wrong, or you might not like your current settings.

5) Call Divert: Yet again not everyone can access this function; this is subject to your Networks Compatibility. When you are within this menu you get the opportunity to change where your calls will go when you are really busy or just out of office. Instead of changing the phones number I would add a number. This number would be the diverting number. You call my phone; if I am unavailable you will get transferred to another number I have allocated. Cool huh? This is great if you don’t want to talk to someone. Just hit the cancel key once and it might just go to another person or usually the default answerphone.

6) Games: On this phone you have a series of games including the following:

Snake 2: This game you have to direct the snake towards the food to make it bigger. The only problem is that the more the snake eats the harder it gets to control it. Whilst doing this you will accumulate points. This will be stored in your mobile phones memory. With this game you can always quit it and it will automatically save it for you. Cool or what?

Rotation: This game is a little bugger. You have to join up numbers like one of those little rubix cubes. This game takes patience, Time and Logic.

Racket: This game is brilliant as you can have a nice little game of Tennis. You have the option of 4 levels. Slow, Slow/Medium, Medium/Fast and Fast. The fastest is the hardest and the slowest is the easiest. This game is great if you are on the go, plus it saves you having to carry a laptop around with you.

Opposite: This game reminds me of Othello, you have white circles and Black circles. The objective of this game is to have more white/black circles on the table when the last space is taken.

7) Calculator: This phone even comes with a built in calculator. This is great if you don’t want to be carrying around a large calculator in your pocket. It even comes with a currency converter.

8) Calendar: This phone is a little miniature office so far. You have a calendar to record those last minute appointments when you are out. This gives you easy access to see where your next job or location is. You even can set-up an alarm that goes off between 1-24 hours before the appointment is due to commence.

9) Infrared: This is a handy feature that really works. All you have to do is point it towards you infrared port on a computer and start transferring files. You can even use it for dual gaming via Phone to Phone. It’s really easy to use. All you have to do it go into the main menu and scroll up to number 9 on the menu and press the Jog-Dial in. That’s it, ACTIVATED. If you were to use it for a computer you would need to get the software and drivers for it.

10) W @ P: This phone comes with the internet on. As I said earlier, it has an amazing 28.8K Voice/Data/Fax modem built in. Surf the internet and get into your e-mail. All at the touch of a button.

Overall my experience of this phone is very good. It may be a Dual-band phone (This means you can use it only within certain areas of the world) but it is one of the most self-contained I know to this day. Use it for business or pleasure the choice is yours but I do say one thing, DONT KNOCK IT UNTIL YOU HAVE TRIED IT. This phone is great.
