This phone is certainly state of the art and well worth a look into. And with more phones coming out everyday the price of this handset is reducing to an affordable price. After the releases of the 8210, 6210 and the 3310, the Nokia 7110 has now dropped into third place in the priority list of the company must have phone. A real bonus if you ask me, as now you can pick this phone up cheaply - even for free if you are willing to sign some contracts. And that's good, because all-round, it's the best phone out at the moment. Below I have described why this is the must have phone of the moment. It has loads of features and the look of the phone is class. Ok, so it's not the prettiest, it's not as small or the tiny as the 8210 or Ericsson T28, but it's definitely more useful. Who wants a small phone anyway? I'm perfectly content with the 7110 as I don’t loose it in my pocket or among all the rubbish in my house. Lets start with the phone book. Not only can you store around 1000 yes one thousand names, you can store more than one number per name. So, if someone's got both a landline and a mobile, just put them under the same name. Did I mention you can save addresses, email addresses and even write comments about people? Now there's what I call usefulness. Although if you’re like me, you may not have time to write comments about people and you only want the phone to make calls on. Well even I was persuaded to use some of the extra features. Then there's the messages. I haven't got a clue how many SMS messages you can store, but I haven’t yet run out of space. And if you've got that many - how about this - you can create folders for your messages, so you can have a folder for each person. Simple, yet very effective - a touch that I like. Furthermore, you the suggestive input dictionary. An annoying addition sometimes, but most of the time it is very useful.
> There's more ring tones and a cool vibrate mode on the phone, which come under the 'Profiles' menu. Everything here is customisable - you can have your pager mode, which just makes the phone vibrate, or you can even make your own. By arranging the people in your phone book into caller groups like 'VIP', 'Family', 'Friends' and the like, you can block out calls from certain people at certain times of the day! You can even rename the whole profile, so its name appears on the main screen. Now that's cool.!!! There's now a choice of four games on the 7110. First of all there is a sequel to the massively popular Snake, called imaginatively, Snake II. It's a bit of an improvement, there's now walls to negotiate and little bonuses which increase your score. Also you can now see your score on screen - very useful if you're about to beat your top score. The game can be played 2-player via the infrared option. Racket is a version of ping-pong and is very addictive, possibly even better than Snake. Just hit the ball backwards and forth over the net - it's more addictive than it sounds. The there's Opposite, which is a board game called Othello in disguise. If you don't know Othello, I won't explain the rules to you here, but it's a sort of mix between chess and checkers. Last but not least is Rotation, which is exactly the same as the version on the 3310. And I'm still not finished yet! The Calendar is a superb addition to the phone, and almost takes the place of a complete PDA. View you schedule by weeks or by day to plan ahead. You can enter a note for any time, be it a meeting, call, a birthday, or simply a reminder and the phone will keep track of it all, even buzzing it's alarm to remind you 5, 10, 15 or even 30 minutes before. The calendar is great and will save you a lot of time. Best of all, is the WAP capability. One of the main reasons why I got this p
hone was for WAP and I'm pleased to say I'm not disappointed. The roller-bar makes Web-surfing almost effortless. It's almost as if they were designed for each other. And if you add the usefulness of all the resources of the Web to the advantages of the phone, you can see you've got a superb product. The battery life is fantastic - up to 260 hours stand-by according to Nokia but realistically I've found that I can make the phone last about three days without a charge - then I do make a lot of phone calls. Perhaps it would be better to compare to my 3210, which only lasted two days on a charge. However possibly the catchiest feature about the phone is the 'flip-down' answer panel, activated by the little button on the back, or just sliding it down. It does look cool when your phone rings to press the button on the back and - swoosh! - the panel comes down. What makes this particular function so good is that it is similar to the one in the Matrix, a very popular film. Call quality is superb - as good as a landline - the extra reception indicators along the left-hand side of the display reassure you somewhat. Of course the quality of the call depends what network you’re on, I’ve found that the best two networks are Orange and BT Cellnet. So if you've got mates who have got the latest, or smallest phone out, then just ask them if it can do everything that the 7110 does. And show them this review. They'll go quiet pretty quickly. As it stands, this is the best-value phone on the market - and this time next year it'll be everywhere. There's only one drawback to this phone which I can think of at the moment and that's the flip-down cover, which feels a bit weak, and probably will fall off after a year or two. But I hear that they are easily replaced, so it's only really a minor fault. My verdict – buy this handset if you’re looking for a phone wit
h style and lots of functions its well worth it!!!
