Advantages: Large internal phonebook, WAP, infra-red and SMS, Nice, big screen
Disadvantages: No ringtone composer, No support for Nokia's MP3 plug-in, Heavier than the newer, smaller phones
I bought this phone in March 2001, although this phone was released in 1999. Why did I get it with other contenders like the 3310, 6210 and 8210? Read on! Firstly, this phone looks way too cool - yeah, lots of people find it ugly, but you have to have a certain taste for things! It has the ultimate executive-phone look, and lots of features which can make this phone a life-long partner... Firstly, check out its nice, big screen with 6 lines of text. This makes it a lot easier to read and compose messages, compared to the tiny screens the other Nokias come with. And it has six levels for the battery and reception meter, which provides more accurate information compared to other phones. Next, take a look at its humongous built-in memory which can hold 1000 users (each with 2 telephone numbers)! You can also add text and e-mail addresses for your friends, then use the WAP features to send e-mail from within the phone. Cool or what? The most attractive feature of the phone is the slide - yes, the type Neo and Morpheus use in "The Matrix". When a call is coming in, simply press a button at the back of the phone and start talking! When you want to end a call, close the slide and the conversation ends. No more punching buttons around! And when you're in a crowded place, you know you'll have lots of eyes looking at you when you answer a call ... :). The phone has all the features any mobile should have ... SMS messaging, 6 customizable profiles, alarm and time, call divert functions, 4 games (Snake II, Rotation, Racket and Opposite), a calculator, a very useful calender where you can store notes and reminders, an infra-red port to communicate with other Nokias or transfer your phone-book to your PC or print it directly to an infra-red printer, and WAP. Phew, that's a long list of features! Now I want to make this review objective, so I won't skimp on the phone's cons. Firstly, Nokia "fo
rgot" to include a ringtone composer in this phone, so the only way you can add new ringtones is if your friends are kind enough to SMS them to you, or if you get an infra-red port for your PC and then transfer ringtones from your computer to the phone. And no, you can't SMS ringtones to your friends either. Lots of people have also complained about the "weak" and "flimsy" slide. While nothing has gone wrong with mine, it depends on how well you use the phone. If you're going to bang the phone on the table every time you end a call, don't expect the phone to last too long. Use it with affection and care, and it'll last a life-time! If you've searched for opinions on this phone, you'll figure that a majority of people bought this mobile because it looked like the 8110 used in The Matrix (movie). Believe me, this phone is worth much more than its good looks. If you get one, you won't regret it! I've had it since March, and haven't had any problems yet. But my friends and everyone else reminds me not to pull the slide with my hand (use the button), and not to place the phone on any surface with the face down because you can scratch the shiny aluminium. Good luck with your mobile adventures!

take the red pill and you get the 7110l; take the blue pill, and you end up with a 3310. :) |
