Advantages: Looks excellent, well built, reliable
Disadvantages: Rubbish interface, lack of functionality
The Nokia 8800 I have no doubt is overpriced for what it can do in terms of its technology but if you haven't already seen a picture of the 8800, that's not the point. It was designed to look good and carry on looking good for a long time to come. The stainless steel shell is made too a high quality and feels weighty in your hand. The phone slides up on tiny ball bearings inside so it flicks up to sound of metal hitting metal. It is a piece of technology that is never going to beat even your average phone in terms of what it can do but it's styling is timeless.
The problems begin when you flick up the phone and get started. Of course the keypad looks good but that's the problem here. They made the keys smaller and put them closer together so texting and dealing numbers or indeed anything that involves the keypad can be a source of frustration. The navigating bar doesn't have this problem though because it is flat unlike the keys.
The features on this phone are much like many from its time with a crap camera, a couple of bad games and Bluetooth. It does have a music player but even when music on your phone was not very accessible it was worse than average. The camera is a 1.2 megapixel typical of phones around this time. I only ever took two photos and they were difficult to see even on the tiny screen.
The screen is good and bright for its time if a bit on the small side, again I think this is a result of style being chosen over functionality. It is a reliable phone though and that's party nokias good track record for reliable phones but also the tough exterior of the phone.
If you want a phone that is going to be a sat nav, play your music and play fruit ninja on don't get this phone. But if you want a phone that looks good and is going to continue looking good for sometime to come this is it. I would compare this phone to buying an Aston Martin DB5. You can get much better performance from a car at a lower price today but I would still go for the Austin for the looks.
Summary: It' can be frustrating to use but that can be overlooked for the amazing looks.
