Advantages: Sleek styling, Lots of power in a small package, lots of added extras - modem, infra-red
Disadvantages: Not a truly global phone
After 2yrs (as a veteran Nokia phone owner) of owning the Nokia 8850 - I am still yet to find a more desirable phone! The phone overall is very impressive - providing a very good array of services. The look of the phone is certainly very very impressive - sleek + subtle - brushed metal finish! The new look phones blue backlight is a great improvement on the standard green backlight. It works very well in both dim and poor lighting! On using the phone I noticed that it maintained the easy to use Nokia menu system with the profile system! In my opinion I am still yet to use a better menu system - straightforward access to messaging, settings and most importantly accessing phone numbers! The phone has an impressive memory capacity - up to 250 names and numbers on the phone itself. I have used the phone heavily for the last two years. The phone battery power is quite good considering the size of the phone - lasting about two days (on average) with medium phone use! I found the call quality overall to be of a high standard - holding on to majority of the calls. This especially impressed me as the phone has no ariel that was a concern of mine initially. At the time of launch the phone was offering great extras (which have now become standard on most high-end Nokia phones): built in modem, infra-red, vibrate alert, 30 ring tones, basic voice dialling & PC Sync software (syncing calendar, phone book of the phone). I have found all of these extras to be extremely useful - especially the vibrate alert - allowing calls to be received discretely! Overall - the phone looks great and works very well considering the size of the phone. Nokia has done a great job on this phone making it look great and work amazingly well by keeping it simple. Giving direct access to the main functions i.e. making calls, sending and receiving all types of messages! With a few added bonuses (built in modem) in a small package! I just wish
this phone was a global phone i.e. tri-band phone - that would make it a truly AMAZING phone! I look forward to seeing the next generation in this 88XX series!
