Nokia 8910

Hello everyone

I know it sounds wierd to call a phone sexy, but this one really is! It's black (limited edition black, don't like the other 'natural' titanium colour) titanium casing is cold to the touch (until you warm it up), very sleek and well, very sexy. Push the two chrome buttons on side together and the top of the phone slides smoothly and slowly upwards. No sharp snap like on the 7110 (although that was cool too!). This phone oozes class. Black casing and contrasting white/pale blue screen looks amazing. Large chrome Nokia branded plate on the rear and chrome buttons also. Absolutely to-die-for design like no other phone available.

Features

*OK, sexy titanium casing - think I've covered that!
*Bluetooth - works a treat with headsets but haven't tried anything else. Bluetooth in car kits sounds very cool but don't really need one when you've got a headset.
*Large memory for calendar, text messages and contacts.
*To-do list with 30 entries.
*Voice recorder/stopwatch/countdown timer/voice commands/calculator
*WAP with GPRS
*Infrared
*Vibrate function
*Games - Snake 2, Snowboarding, Bantumi, Pairs 2
*Unique one hand operated automotic slide
*Long standby/talk times as per 8310 etc
*Digital or analogue clock screensaver
*Very, very exclusive - know anybody who's got one?
*Greyscale screen - This is ever so slightly different from a regular Nokia black & white screen and you may not notice but looks quite nice.

Bad Points

This may be a gorgeous phone but yes, it does have some bad points!

*Stylish slide hides all keys when shut, including keys to silence or reject a call
*Phones keylock feature (although pretty pointless) is manual (menu&*) rather than automatic like on the 8850 or 7110.
*Damn expensive - OK this is good in that it helps to keep it exclusive but it really is silly money if y
ou get it SIM free or on contract from any mobile phone store. (Mines from eBay)
*Slide function does not answer calls as soon as you press the buttons. Ie call is only connected when slide is down fully and if you do not wait, you will get an earful of your ringtone before answering the call. Sounds silly but is very easily forgotten and can be pretty painful as well as annoying.
*8910i with colour screen looks set to replace the regular 8910. Colour screen would be nice but 8910i is even more expensive and the cost becomes very, very silly.
*Chrome buttons are lit up with square marks rather than back lit so that in absolute darkness it is impossible to see what number and/or letter you are pressing. Very simple Nokia so what happened? Style over practicality apparently. Not the end of the world but dissapointing.
*Possible problem with the digital clock screensaver - the analogue one looks good and fills up the whole screen but the digital clock is small and features a very nasty looking square AM/PM marker. Not impressed as I prefer digital format.
*Up arrow button is quite difficult to press due to the raised lip around the screen. Similarly, the bottom row of buttons are also poorly positioned with your thumb restricted by the top of the slide.

Sounds like a lot of negative points for a super expensive phone doesn't it? Well, it is a long list and quite disappointing really. If it wasn't so damn good looking, I would change it. However, I would definately recommend this phone to the style concious people out there. Perhaps not the most practical phone as many people would be scared of scratching it due to its cost but really is beautiful. If you are not bothered about being exclusive, stick to the regular nokias and admire from afar when in the Nokia shop. If you are really passionate about your phones possibly consider the 8855 (Hong Kong import only - check eBay) which is similarly stylish, more exclusive but lacks the un
ique sleek slide which I really love.

Check eBay.co.uk for cheap(er) 8910 but be aware of fraudsters.

The 8910 is not really for people who need to change their sim or battery regularly as it is a somewhat lengthy process to remove the back cover and requires the use of small instrument.

The 8910 is a gorgeous phone but beauty is only skin deep so if you aren't prepared to spend £250+ on this phone, be comfortable in the knowledge that any 8310 or better has pretty much all the same features (excluding bluetooth) but is simply packaged differently.

If you look on ebay, you can find covers fro the 8310 which turn it into the sexy slidey model you like so much, they're often about £8 which is a lot better than £250*. Sorry if that makes you feel silly for spending so much, welcome to dooyoo!

Another excellent op ;)

You might want to avoid posting more than one op a day, as often people will only read your most recent offering!
