Advantages: Good, novel, gimmicky things!

Disadvantages: Not as modern as they used to be! (stands to reason!)

Ok, so the Nokia nk402, 5110 or the 5146 are not the newest most modern of mobiles anymore. Yet STILL in comparison to some other makes, namely makes other than Nokia, are still far below the quality of these mobiles. Ive got a nokia 5110 (so I feel able to write about the nk402 too seen as they're the same!) while a friend has a Maxon 2 (or something like that!) Now im not being nasty here - but quite simply, in my opinion at least!, Nokia mobiles just are miles ahead. (Or they were for thier time)

~Features~
3 games (vital for mobile phones!)
You get:
Memory (basically like Snap!) (You have to memorise which "card" is where, then turn 2 of a kind over to get a matching pair)
Logic: This isnt very good. Infact I still cant really figure it out! All I can gather is that you have to match (or guess rather!) the order in which 4 (if you're doing the easy level!) "objects" appear.
And last but by NO means least - the all singing, all dancing SNAKE!!!!! Wahay!
Im sure I dont need to explain Snake now!

~ Calculator ~
Now this doesnt need explaining really does it!? Its nothing fancy, put it this way if you wanted to find the log of 649 then dont bother. Not even the square root of 76, this calculator has only the + - / and * facilities available. Having said that you can do decimal places. So fair do's Nokia!

~ Tones ~
You have a choice of 30.
Some good, some not so good. Nothing much else to say here really.
You can choose you're ringing volume and things, but nothing out of the ordinary there!

~ Clock ~
You can have an alarm clock. (Which is handy if the electricity goes off!) A good thing about the alarm clock is the fact that it works even if you turn off your mobile - so you dont waste the battery power over-night. Personally I think thats great!
Under "clock settings" you have:
Hide the clock option - doesnt need
explaining!
Set the time - no explaining required
and Time format - here you can choose 24 hr or 12 hr clock.

~ Call divert ~
Here you can divert calls to another number, to your voice mail, divert ALL calls, divert when your busy, divert when not answered, divert when no coverage or when phone is switched off.

~ Settings ~
Here you have:
"Call settings"
Choices of own number sending - on or off (ie hide your own number from people you call (basically like the 141 service). You can have automatic redial enabled, speed dialling and call waiting options.
Phone settings:
Choice of languages (one tip is to not on any account (no matter how bored you are!) to change the language to something you don’t understand. Particularly to something like Chinese whereby you cant even make out the letters! I did that once….must have been very bored! And it took me AGES to find my way back to “English”) You can choose you network number, write your own welcome note (it appears each time you turn on your phone).
Security settings:
PIN code request – you can have it on or off – you can choose your own PIN number.
Fixed dialling – must confess…never tried this so don’t know what it does!
You can change the access codes at any point, have phone security on or off. Also you can restore factory settings.
Call register:
Under here you have “missed calls” – this tells you the last people to have called your mobile – pretty self explanatory.
“Received calls” – again doesn’t need explaining! It tells you the last calls you had received.
“Dialled numbers” – well take a wild guess about what that’s about!
“Erase recent call lists” – here you can delete all of them, or select the one’s you want to erase.
“Show call duration”
211; this is quite interesting to look at sometimes – just to see how long you spent on the phone. Its surprising how long some phone calls last!
“Show call cost” – here you can have it to show the last calls costs, all the calls costs or delete them.

“Messages” – now EVERYONE knows about the brilliant SMS facilities now-a-days! One the nk 402, 5110 or 5246 you get:
Inbox – this houses the last 10 (I think) messages you’ve received…and not deleted.
Outbox – this is where the messages you are going to send are stored, if you save them
Write messages – this is quite logically! Where you write the messages you want to send. It allows upto 160 characters (which is better than some mobiles).

If someone sends you a message of a picture (e.g. from a Nokia 3210 or later) then the nk402, 5110 and 5146 all allow you to view them in ASCII formats. Unlike the phone I mentioned earlier, like the Maxon range of mobiles, if you send a picture message to one of them it wont work….its just simple things like that, that to me, make a mobile what it is.

“Phone book” – it allows you to store up to 100 names. You get the option of searching for a name, whereby you type in the letter L for Lisa or something, saves lots of time going through all the names if you’ve got a lot of names in there! You get the option of “memory status” – this tells you how many spaces in the phone book are used and how many are free. You can choose your “type of view” – here you can have it showing just the name, the name and number, in large font or not in large font. You can also give certain numbers speed dials, if you so wish!

~Other factors~
Battery life is brilliant on my 5110. I have it switched on all day every day and I only have to charge mine up once a week really. Even then it doesnt have to be d
one, but there is only 1 bar showing! It takes 4 hours to charge it up fully.

Also don’t forget the fact that you can also add novel things like:
Coloured fascia’s! You get transparent, flashing ones, coloured ones, one’s with key protectors….the list goes on!
You can buy new keypads, you can go all colour co-ordinated with your fascia or not, whichever you prefer! (You can even get metallic versions, marble effects…etc!)
Flashing antenna! - great idea…just don’t rely on them should you need to make a call!
You can customise your phone by downloading (for free I might add!) your own user graphic (I think that’s what they call them) – its basically a logo of, well basically anything you can think of really, that goes on your screen in place of “BT Cellnet” “Vodafone” or whatever you’re on.
Oh mustn’t forget – you can now get holographic stickers to stick to your screen, these are nifty – but I found that they are VERY awkward to stick on effectively! The number of little bubbles make it look better without! But everyone to their own I suppose!

Yes sure, having 30 ring tones and 3 games are purely “cosmetic” things, but you’re paying for the phone and when I got my 5110 it was worth about £90 and the Maxon was being sold for around £50. Now the extra £40 may sound a lot considering a phone’s a phone right?! Well to me im glad I payed the extra money.

I also understand that these phones are really old stock now in comparison to the 3310, 8210, 9110 etc etc etc. Although I still think these phones are great! (and of course they’re much cheaper now-a-days!)

If you’re after a fashionable, reasonably cheap (Im on BT Cellnet Pay as you go) (the one’s where they DON’T make you put £15 per month in though!), good range of facilities, good looking phone (always
a must) but yet you’re not bothered about being REALLY up to date then id definitely say go and buy a 5110, nk402 or a 5146…doesn’t matter which!
