Advantages: Ideal for teens, Easy to use

Disadvantages: No Wap, No special features

Everyone has one now - mobiles have sweeped the country and suddenly before you know it, your teenager wants one!! Obviously at some point you will probably get one, but your mind is running with worries:-
* What if I fork out a lot of money for something that will just be broken?
* Well I don't want a contract phone as I'm sure they will run up a bill!
* A lot of people have been mugged for flashy moblies, so I'd rather get them one that isn't as flashy but still does the trick.

Well this is where the Philips Savvy comes into play.

The first thing that is best to do is weigh up the PROS and CONS of the handset.

PROS -
* Quite a tough little phone - hard to damage
* Reception Coverage
* Battery life
* Although the phone will cut out with a dead battery, you can usually switch it on quickly to see if you have recieved any SMS or phone calls!
* Very reliable - It is likely to last a few years

CONS -
* Small Screen
* Only stores 10 SMS (Text messages)
* Keys are prone to sticking
* Only 20 ringtones which are quite simple, you also cannot download or recieve new ringtones.
* You cannot access the internet like most handsets around now

It also has a few features that would be handy for anyone.
* Alarm Clock - No more sleeping in, in the morning, the alarm can be set to go louder and louder
* Voice dialling - all you have to do is set the name by your voice, (to do this go to MENU > PHONE BOOK > ADD ENTRY > TYPE IN THE PERSONS NAME > PRESS DOWN TO SAVE ENTRY > The phone will ask if you wish to add voice dialling > PRESS DOWN FOR YES > SAY NAME CLEARLY > REPEAT NAME 2ND TIME > THEN DOWN TO STORE. ) Whenever you wish to use the voice dialling.......
* Calculator - for adding up those difficult sums you cannot do.
* Stopwatch - Time things like races etc
* The option to send a picture icon with an SMS - Only other S
avvy users will recieve the picture though!
* Answer Phone - for when you really can't take that call
* Bio-calender - you type in your date of birth, the date it is and it tells you your mini horoscope for the day (doesn't cost anything)

PHONE STATS
SAR Value - 1.11

ACCESSORIES
Perhaps you have a Savvy and need accesories for it. Well follow me into the world that is www.l8shop.co.uk, here you can purchase accessories for your phone at affordable prices (prices obtained at this site)all prices includes VAT and free delivery:-
Triple pack - Leather Case, In -car charger and Portable Hands-free kit = £9.99 (should be £6.99 each)
Spare Battery - £14.99
Mains Charger - £14.99

PRICE
I do know that when the handset first came out it cost at least £90 on pay as you go. The price has now lowered and you can purchase the phone for £54 on pay as you go from www.network-mobile-phones.co.uk , they accept Visa, Switch and Mastercard and do not charge for delivery. You are probably unlikely to find this handset in any shops as it is particulary old.

MY OPINION
Well I actually bought the Savvy in 1999 and so it is now 3 years old - Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, anyway, and now I must admit it still works! The anly flaw is that the battery life has decreased but then they say that you should change your battery every year though and I haven't!!
I think it's a great purchase and easy to use that anyone could use it. And I would advise anyone that is looking for their first phone or not that clued up on mobile handsets to buy one.

So maybe when your teen is begging for a phone, don't go for the expensive fragile model, look for a Savvy for one that is garaunteed to last.

Thanks for readi
ng my review, hope you all aren't bored stiff

My V first phone was the version prior to this one and was half a house brick! But I always liked the look of the Savvy although im a thru and thru Nokia addict.

Great stuff. I've had one myself for a few years and don't ever want to change it because the durability and battery life is so impressive.
