Advantages: User-friendly, reliable, efficient

Disadvantages: No bluetooth, no video recording, only a VGA(less than 1 mega pixel) camera

This phone is a definite improvement over my old phone. I have had it about six months now, and it is still a joy to have.

Let me explain why it is so good when compared to my old phone. My old phone was an Alcatel E252 on Orange. This means that it is nothing more than a large pager. Getting a signal was like trying to find a single mis print in an entire encyclopedia. With no dial tone the only notification you got to the progress of the call would be when it would beep loudly at you and display the text 'redialling'. If you had bothered to set up the re-dail function, otherwise it would just disconnect with no warning. And I might as well have put any message I wanted to send in the mail, it would have actually arrived on time, unlike my texts from an Alcatel which went when they felt like it.

The Sagem MYC4-2 is a breath of fresh air when compared to this. It grabs signal from anywhere and holds onto it like a dobberman pincher holds onto a bone. Sending a text takes all of five seconds, and even that is a joy!

The MYC4-2 is quite good, but in order to paint an accurate picture of it, it would be best to describe what is NOT there, something that the retailer that sold me the handset should have done. It doesn't have bluetooth. It doesn't have video recording capability. It doesn't have a very good camera. And music tracks last all of thirty seconds.

Now on to the good bits. The MYC4-2 has a dial tone which is comparable to a landline phone. It's external aerial might look like an eyesore but it is worth having it there. The flip side has a monochrome LCD display and a light. The light can be programmed by you to show different colours when different events take place. The LCd shows who is calling you or how many texts you have. If you've just pressed the send key on a message and you close the flip - it'll still send the message, and the LCD will give you the progress of the message. And when it is turned of and connected to the power cord to be charged, the LCD shows a bar dipicting the battery.

The phone is available in other colours - mine is a jet-black one. And is available on loads of networks. The range of functions is brilliant - if you do want to take pictures, you can edit them with simple editting tasks built into the phone.

The phone might appear to be rubbish when compared to more modern phones like Apple's iPhone and most Nokias. But this is the Mini Cooper of the mobile world. Small and sleek, but just as hard as anything else you want to throw at it.

Which brings me on to another thing - toughness. Most mobile phones are either wafer thin and shatter to a million pieces if they so much as drop a couple of centimetres in a padded room. The Sagem MYC4-2 could be fired from a tank - and still work!

There are only a couple of issues I have with this phone:-
1) Sagem didn't include a USB cable in the package.
2) Sagem charge silly money (£25) for a USB cable to connect your phone to your PC to share or back-up files. (And the phone itself only costs around £20)
3) The music record function is great, but Sagem seem to want to make it rubbish by limiting record function to 30 seconds of music and 1 minute of a To-Do reminder.
4) The pre-set menu backgrounds are rubbish and there is no way to change them for your own images.

Having said that, it is still a good phone, with a battery life of at least 72 hours when left alone, and makes my Palm Zire PDA look weak. And they cost the same amount of money.

Good review, it looks like a nice phone. I have one of those skinny things that disappear in your bag if you have more than 2 items in it.
