Advantages: mp3 player, 2 megapixel camera, video and sound recording
Disadvantages: Battery Life could be better !
Ok it's a phone.. it makes phone calls... don't they all!?!? (sometimes I wonder!) but I'll try to deascribe as best I can the phone's features and my experience with them. I'm not particularly up on my gadgets( I used to be, but technology started advancing way past me)... and I was looking for something quite basic.
The phone is pretty compact, measuring in at 96 x 46.5 x 21.5mm and weighing an average 103 grams. Okay so it's a bit lighter than the last brick I was carrying around at the bottom of my bag. Big plus!
In the box with my phone came a brand spanking new charger, earphones, a cable that fits into my tv somehow (the instructions say I can play my recorded videos on my television screen) a lead to connect my phone to my computer (and a Samsung PC studio installation disk).
The first thing to be done was to charge the phone. About 2-3 hours from dead and my screen told me it was now fully charged. Time to play!
Firstly let's talk about the camera! It's 2 megapixels and easily accessed by a small button on the side of the phone or via the menu if you so wish. I was suprised (and delighted) to find that it came with flash as I take many pictures inside at nightime(okay.. in pubs!) and my previous phone just left me with grainy rubbish that wasn't worth taking. The pictures are sharp and easy enough to take. There are several other features that come with the camera, such as frames and colour settting etc, all can be adjusted to take slightly different photos. I'll be honest, I haven't really gotten around to exploring them much further, just the ability to take high quality pictures easily has been enough to keep me occupied!
Onto sending messages! It has the usual SMS (text) MMS (multimedia- ie. photos, sounds video etc) and email. I am sure most of you are familiar with texting (it appears to be the onlly way to communicate at the moment), nothing different here. Easily accessed and comes wih predictive text which is my life saver! The email I hae yet to set up, so I unfortunately I am not able to properly relay to you if it is useful or effective. I am aware however that it is fairly easy to set up (apparently) and only requires a text to the network provider you are with.
Now onto bluetooth. Easily activated and deactiated through the main menu and as with the vast majority of phones.. it sucks battery life quite a bit quicker. Bluetooth allows you to connect to other devices, such as your computer, printer and head set, hands free kit and even other phones. I was amused the other day when I activated it on the metro and found that I was within 10 metres of "Geoff", "I'm confuzzled", "candy striper", and "happy hooker". Looking around at the many professional looking business workers on the way in to the city I tried to figure out who they all were.
The phone is "quad band". Basically I am told this means it will work in pretty much any country. I didn't realise this at the time of purchase, and it wouldn't have been a major consideration, but it feels could to know that wherever I travel I will be able to contact people back home.
Now on to the swanky mp3 player... which I must say was one of my maiin attractions to the phone. To have music on the go in something smaller than my clunk y old CD player was certainly enticing. It's very easto play tracks and surprisingly easy to upload them onto your phone using PC studio and to send and receive them with other phones via bluetooth. One of the most impressive playing features is the 3D sound which is really very good for such a smalll device.
The phone's basic memory is 72MB and there is a trans flash slot to add further memory if you wish. I have infact done this.. I bought 256MB and the card is the smallest thing you have ever seen. It stores a lot more music and is easy to insert and remove and to store mp3s, files, images, video etc to it.
The only fault I really have with the phone is that the battery runs out by the end of the day if I use he mp3 player a lot. It's not that dreadful, and the standby battery life is much better, but probably worth consideration.
There are many other standard features that come with the phone and they are all easily accessible through the main menu. As a bit of a tecnophobe I can safely say that this phone is very easy to navigate. Although I am fairly certain I have not found every feature it has to offer yet ( I keep finding more each day) the main features aren't hard to find and work.
The phone is stylish and sleek with a trendy slide top which protects the buttons, and it looks very slick. I find myself putting my hand in to my pocket just to take it out to have a look. If you want something a bit special, but aren't prepared to sit and read a manual for hours on end in order to work out how to make a call then I would suggest you take a look at this phone.
