Advantages: Combines the best of the Samsung Soul with the Samsung Tocco to create a new slider for 2009

Disadvantages: There's no 3.5mm audio jack, headphones only!

The first thing you notice about this sleek looking handset is the 2.8 inch high resolution screen which boasts the new AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology. This size screen is a rare find on a slide phone, but can be slightly small and resticting on a touch screen phone. However, i think Samsung made the right decision here, as this screen is a sufficient size and any larger would have comprimised the compact size of the handset.

The Samsung Tocco Ultra offers a great comprimise between practicality and cutting edge design. The touch screen allows users to swishly flick through their photo and music collections as well as text and make calls. However, for the user that wants life to be a little simpiler, the keyboard is only a slide away.

The reason other reason I think this phone is so great is because it not only incudes an 8 megapixel camera, it has also incorporated features such as smile and face detection autofocus, and a powerful LED flash and geo-tagging thanks to the built-in GPS receiver. In my opinion the photo quality is of a very high standard and could give most digital cameras a run for their money. There's also a video editing tool built in to the phone.

For those people who want to be entertained by their mobile, the Samsung S8300 comes with a media player that supports all popular music formats and can play videos in DivX & XviD formats. The phone has a built-in memory which compared to most handsets nowadays is a bit limited. The internal memory is 80 MB, so you'll need to upgrade using an external memory card upto 16GB in size, to take full advantage of this.

Summary: One of the best phones this year.
