I won this in a raffle at work well over a year ago now. I thought nothing of it and threw it into a cupboard. That was until I dropped and shattered my mobile and needed a quick solution. This is when the Samsung GT E1080 came into my life.

All I really needed from a mobile was the ability to talk and text. Reading through the manual this phone offered a lot for someone who is on the phone a lot. What most impresses me is the battery. Fully charged it will give you 120 hours of standby and you could get 180 minutes of talktime. It could cope with a day of me on the blower and texting. All I had to do was give it an overnight charge and we were away again.

It could do with a bigger memory. It would only allow to hold up to 200 names (im not that popular but have a lot of work contacts). Also it only had a limit to hold 100 messages at a time which was a bit annoying.

The phone itself is light and compact (46 mm x 14 mm x 107 mm) and sits in the pocket nicely.
It has the standard functions that most mobiles include such as: time, alarm, stopwatch, calculator along with some basic games. You get a range of annoying ringtones as well.

Whilst at work I dropped this on concrete floors numerous times but the phone just took the pounding. In reliability terms I never had a problem.

The display is a basic colour LED which is clear and easy to read. When making calls the sound quality is good as you can hear people clear and crisp.

The phone is not breaking boundaries in technology but it has a good battery and is robust. I have seen it for sale for £10 - £15 and it is well worth a look for an emergency phone or for someone who does not need a smartphone.
