My Pixon - Great, with a few annoyances (Samsung GT M8800 Pixon)

Disadvantages: Poor battery life, quite pricey

This is my first Samsung mobile phone after being a die hard follower of Sony Ericsson phones for years now. I decided that it was time for a change and also a change of the contract that I was on. There is no doubt in my mind that I made the right choice to move on to Samsung phones and the M8800 Pixon in particular. Although it does posses some annoying little perks, it is an outstanding phone none the less.

Well I guess the first thing I should talk about is the fact that it has the most amazing camera on a phone I have ever set eyes upon. It's got a whopping 8 mega pixel camera packed in to the streamline case of the Pixon. This little baby really does do the name 'camera phone' justice. Not only does the camera have more functions than 10 swiss army knives, but it does each and every one to the highest standard. It does everything, very well.

Below i have listed some of the main functions of the Samsung Pixon along with some descriptions for those of us who are a little bit behind with technology!


Camera - 8 mega pixels
(photo quality is measured in pixels - it's the quickest and simplest way of comparing a camera's image quality. Just look for the bigger number!)

Touch Screen
(The screen detects the presence of pressure on the viewable touch area. In this case, the whole screen is touch screen)

(The camera is also able to capture high quality video)

(Compatible with other mobile networks.)

It also has all of the functions of a normal handset and also that of a Smartphone. Being a smartphone the Pixon is, well, smarter than most other phones. It lets you take on tasks such as e-mail, a diary, the internet, a large memory and a wealth of other programs.
The size of the actual touch screen area is 3.2 inches and I have found that the sensitivity of the screen is very responsive. Sometimes it lags, sometimes it is too responsive. It really varies on what tasks you are asking it to undertake. I have found that it really slows down quite a lot when you are sending a text and get to about the 4th or 5th page of a text. Now normally no one in their right mind would reach such a lengthy text, but on the odd occasion I have found myself doing so (scary eh??). But why on earth any one would need the maximum amount of pages allowed of 15 i do ask myself sometimes. But remember, if you do reach this, your entering the realms of Matrix slow motion. In other words, IT SLOWS THE HELL DOWN.

One thing I'm sure some of you will be pleased to know is that I have dropped this phone on many occasions, one occasion I left it on the roof of my friends car and he drove off... needless to say the phone took a dive for it off the car and hit the road hard. NOT A SCRATH TO BE SEEN... It's quite unbelievable to be honest. I was astonished when I couldn't find any dents or war wounds. I was even more astonished when the touch screen was undamaged and still in perfect working order.

Another thing I should probably mention is that the battery life of this phone is not particularly good. It's not terrible, but it's something to take in to account. When your on the phone talking to someone, the battery runs low pretty quickly. I mentioned the talk time length above and it's nothing special to write home about. Then again it's not as low as some power hungry phones on the market. Therefore I wouldn't say it's that much of a worry especially if you remember to charge it every night or so. It does also give you a very handy beep if your on the phone and the battery begins to run low. Which is good and bad. Good because it alerts you that it needs charging (obviously) and bad because it really scares when it happens due to how loud it is!! (Not so obvious)

Well I think that pretty much sums it all up. My personal opinion? This is a great purchase and a great piece of electrical equipment. The sleek design and feel of the phone is great and the powerful camera is to die for. It does come with it's fair share of annoyances however, but I think they are all pretty easy to overlook when balanced up with the great points of this phone.
