Advantages: Simple, Trendy, Basic, good quality
Disadvantages: No hidden gems, very basic
Well.... My mum (bless her heart) wanted a new phone for Christmas and the romantic that my dad is bought her a brand new one from the extremely glamorous a'la tesco supermarket. My mum previously had a Motorola which was pretty good but she lost her charger and decided she wanted a brand new phone! And this is what she got.......The Black Samsung C300.
The Samsung C300 is a compact mobile phone which comes with good quality features. But it is very basic... no camera, no video, no Bluetooth etc.... But it does what a phone is supposed to do, make and receive good quality phone calls while looking good.
The Samsung C300 is also known as the Samsung SGH-C300 & is available in silver or black. I am talking about the black version which provides a matt & glossy finish and is very attractive.
The phone is neat & compact and the handset feels solid to hold & looks like a top end of the market mobile phone. It has an easy to use slider mechanism and is all very trendy, you would not know it does not have the top notch features, like the camera unless you actually looking for it.
The C300 comes with 2 Mbytes of internal memory which allows you to save contact details, numbers, messages and other information. The fitted battery provides up to 7.6 hours of talk time or up to 493 hours of standby battery time. So you do not need to charge it all night every night like a lot of the new fancy phones!!
Something very interesting about this phone and I have never actually known this before is something called a uTrack feature. It will alert a preset number if the phones SIM card is changed. The uTrack feature will help the user recover their mobile phone if it is lost or stolen by alerting the user of the location of the handset. The phone comes with a SOS message feature which will alert the users emergency contact numbers when the user is in need of help. The user simple presses a single button & the emergency contacts will receive a message which alerts them that the user is in need of help. It sounds pretty good in theory, but to be honest I have not managed to work out how to set it on my mum's phone. But it does sound like a great feature... if I can make sense of it!
The C300 comes with an alarm clock feature, calculator, currency converter & a phone book which will store up to one thousand contacts at any one time. It also comes with already installed games... minesweeper and snowball fight. But you can download others from the phone...which you have to pay for. You get 16 Polyphonic Ring tones (which are not completely pants) and also speakerphone.
My mum paid £39.99 for the phone, which I'm on the bench about in terms of value. It is a good basic phone, but I still think by adding another £20 or so she may have got the camera and the other added bits and pieces. But as the phone goes my mum gives it a lip smacking 8/10.

Summary: Very basic but a great simple mobile phone. Great as a back up!
