the phone is a very unique and portable device that fits very nicely in your pocket.
I had the D500 for 2 years and it is a very reliable phone that will be there till the end. the phone had blue tooth compatibility and was the fashion statement for the new slide feature at the time which is why i purchased this one.
The main features of it was the high quality camera and sliding keypad capabilities. it has blue tooth and infrared with plenty of downloadable games to enjoy. The keypad was very nice to use and is very stylish. THe software is very responsive and quick. Call quality is surprising clear with the built in loud speaker. The mot unique feature was the flash light for taking photos at night.
Overall i had a good experience with this device, it lacked the features of todays phones but at the time it was a real winner. its a great spare phone to have.
This phone has been around for quite a while now, its small, easy to use, comes in black and is shiny and elegant with a creative interface. The phone comes with a 1.3 mega pixel camera which is not too bad, but picture quality is not perfect.
The advantages of this phone are that, the skin colour for the phone can be changed, the phone can be slid down whilst playing music, the phone comes with an attachable loudspeaker, making music sound impressive, the memory is not brilliant but a card can be inserted, the phone comes with accessories itself and is very easy to use!
The disadvantages are obviously its low memory, the quality of the camera, the quality of videos when recorded, the p-hone has had problems with a part in the back which comes loose making the phone out of action, but i am not sure whether this still occurs or it was just a manafucturing fault. Overall, the phone is useful for calling, texting and its standard features.
The reasons why I like this phone is that it is small and handy, it always seems to be able to keep its battery and if you do not scratch it, it looks really smart!
I had this phone a couple of years back and it probably is the best phone that I have ever had. I still use it now quite often as I have a new nokia which is prone to crashing. This phone really is reliable and it is much faster and easier to use than the new phone that I have now.
It has a decent camera and records videos too. Its also strong as i've dropped it that many times and it still works perfectly and it doesn't even scratch easily.
It has games and you can go on wap with it. Its the best phone that i have ever had to text on as it is so easy to use. It has a couple of games on it that I think are ok but i havent really played them. Plenty of ringtones to choose from.
Overall I would recommend this phone and if it wasnt for the fact that im on contract now so keep getting new phones, I would happily use this one again.
Overall this isn't a bad phone, it has a reasonable number of features and they all work well and seem very efficient.
However, there is one problem I have been unable to solve. Whenever I receive or make a call it is almost impossible to hear the person on the other end of the line, it is just ridiculously quiet. I have tried everything possible to solve it, every volume I could find was turned up to full, I have messed with the settings hundreds of times and still I have to run to the nearest quiet corner to have any chance of being able to hold a conversation. Possibly it was a problem with my particular handset but I would warn anyone considering buying this phone to try and test before making the purchase.
Other than this problem though it would have been a very good phone and I would have highly recomened it, however I can't recomend I phone on which you can't hold phone calls...
I Have to say it's the best phone I have ever brought! if your clumsy like me then its the best phone it withstands most drops and I've dropped mine more then I can count! I even dropped it in my bath and kitchen sink and it still works fine! I brought this phone about four years ago and I haven't regretted. Not only that the phone seems to be baby proof as my 14 month old still hasn't manage to break or chew it to bits so it's a pretty tough phone! The phone it self is easy to use the camera is pretty basic doesn't take brillent photos and the sound isn't as good as today's new phones but it's a sturdy phone and the battery lasts and plenty of memory. I did go out and buy a nokia N95 and within a few days It was broken so now I have gone back to using the samsung! one top little phone!
i had a samsung d500 a fair few years ago in 2004, but i still remember it soo well!, and i think its the best phone i have ever had, it had pretty big memory compared to toher new phones at the time, and even my mum can work it!! it was quite expensive, but i think it was worth it and i would have reccommend the phone to anyone! the only major fault is the screen sometimes freezes, but maybe thats just because i use my phone lots... poor games on phone, but since you can download games i guess it doesnt really matter... all in all, well worth the £250 i paid for it, better than any nokia i seen on the go back then!!! go out and buy this phone! its excellent!!! a classic i think! i dont know anyone who has a bad word to say about it...
What a legend of a phone! Who could forget this little baby!
Samsung D500 came popular around 2001-2002, which was a long time ago. However, back then, it was one of the most feature packed phones! Built with 1.3MP camera, high resolution screen, flawless sliding mechanism and professional looking design, it was very desirable. It was expensive too, as it surfaced, though price died away. Importantly, it was successful for many years following its release, which is difficult to achieve for a phone.
The keypad is somewhat cramped, but still responsive. Compact in the hand and in the pocket, though it is abit thicker than other Samsung sliders now. The loudspeaker - enhancer was also fun, to use D500 as a music player. Enabled with Bluetooth too, easy to transfer songs or files with the computer or other handsets.
Succeded by D600, which was not as successful, D500 remain one of the most unforgettable handsets in mobile history.
The Samsung D500 is a phone I've had for a while now. Each year my partner get's a new phone and I inherit her old one. The D500 is one of the better phone's I've used. I sit here typing after finding the box and manuel to help with the technical facts.
The display on the D500 is excellent with a 1.9 inch sized screen, a resolution of 176x220 pixels, displaying 262k colours. The screen is bright and easy to see at all time.
The camera's resolution is 1.3 megapixels which can take some good pictures, but better's available on the market. The camera has a flash and a 7x digital zoom and can also be used as a camcorder, with a 4x digital zoom.
The phone comes with an MP3 player with a decent sized memory (if it's not full with loads of videos) that plays at a high quality. The MP3's can be used as ringtones, message alerts and for your alarm.
The phone supports bluetooth and has a USB adaptor so you can transfer your videos and photos onto your computer to free up space on the phone. A bluetooth head set and car kit comes included.
The memory at 80 Mbytes is pretty decent for storing music and photos, but can soon fill up with video's. There is memory card slot included, although I don't have one as I don't use my phone for video's very often.
You can connect to the Internet, play and download game's, along with the usual phone functions (calculator, calendar etc).
Features of the Samsung D500 )taken off the box) include:
1.3 megapixel camera (1280 x 1024 pixels) with flash and digital zoom
Video recording & messaging (176 x 144 pixels)
262,144 colour TFT LCD display (176 x 220 pixels)
Music player (MP3/AAC)
JavaTM games (3 embedded games)
Ringtones: 64-voice polyphonic and MP3
Connectivity: BluetoothTM, USB, IrDa, SyncML
Integrated handsfree speakerphone
Messaging : SMS (with learning T9), EMS, MMS
E-Mail client (POP3, IMAP4, SMTP) / vCard / vCalendar
Personal organiser functions
Phonebook (max 1000 entries)
Memory: 80 Mbytes
WAP 2.0, GPRS class 10
Size: 94 x 46 x 24 mm
Talktime: up to 6.5 hours
Battery standby: up to 300 hours
I like this phone as its small, not too heavy, has a decent range of feature's and is very easy to use. I would recommend it to anyone who want's a robust phone and is not too bothered with having the latest model.
I had the d500 on contract a few years ago and this was the first contract phone i had, It was the best out at the time with all features you could want, 1.3 mega pixel camera, gprs, messaging, email, games and more.
also a nice little slide phone.
Ok if you wanted to update the cover you need a special tool to do it and i have heard it quite fiddly. so i hve now found a snapon cover that is just push on push off, it has revamped the phone nicley as i have now handed it down to my daughter, as it such a simple phone to use.
Also the battery life of the phone seemed endless and the bright coloured screen just was so clear to view messages etc, with no glare from external things.
they came ith a dongle , earphones and charger, and in a fancy box, made it look expensive, but back hen i got mine you where talking to buy one around £400.00.
Even now it a few years old i never have had a fault with it and if you could pick up a second hand one, i would say you could choose worse.
main fault nowadays ould be it doesnt have an expanable memory
i have recently upgraded to the d600 but still have my d500 model. I would say this phone is for everyone. But would suggest you think about the d600 instead because it does a lot more and you can fit a memory card in the memory card slot at the side...(if you look it up it will say)... It is quite smart looking. slide up phone with camera, mms/sms video messaging and all the fancy gadgets.
I found it a good phone that easily fits in your pocket and is about the size of an adults index finger. It has quite a lot of memory to fit about roughly ... 20 songs, lots and lots of photos and 20 videos or so.
I liked this phone because it is smart small and hard to accidentally dial the wrong number while it is in your pocket. I dislike d the number keys as the 1,2 and 3 key were difficult to press quickly.
Although i strongly recommend you look at the samsung d600 (the upgrade) as i found it is a lot better.
I hope this helped you.
I was looking for a phone to replace the Sanyo S750 mobile phone. I knew what I wanted and I knew that I wanted to spend less than £150.00. The network I wanted was Orange, so the search began. As usually I picked up the Argos book, checked Ebay, checked Carphone warehouse and then finally checked orange.co.uk. I have no particular phone in mind; I knew that I wanted a slide phone, which was fairly compact, and basically a good all-round phone.
After a few days of reading about the phones I narrowed the search down to two different Samsung phones. In the end I decided on the Samsung D500 for a few reason. Mainly as it was a compact phone, which was selling for a reasonable price, it was on the network I wanted, it was a slide phone and it had many features that I was looking for.
*****Price and Availability******
www.ebay.co.uk - £60.00 plus £7.00 postage second hand on Orange network
www.carephonewarehouse.co.uk £159.99 free postage and free £10.00 credit on Orange.
www.orange.co.uk - No longer sell this phone it has been replaced with the Samsung d600 on their site.
I bought this phone on the orange network but it is also available on Mobile world, Virgin, O2 and T mobile. If you buy this phone on Ebay the chances are that the phone will be unlocked. Meaning that you can put any sim card in it.
*****Whats in the box when you receive it? *****
Providing you buy it new you will find the following within the box,
*The battery, which will require a full charge before the first use, so if it is for a present be sure to charge it fully or you, will disappoint someone.
*Obviously the new Samsung d500
*Instruction booklet for the phone, dont worry you dont need to read all the instruction before setting the phone up. Its pretty straightforward.
*Sim card, mines was an orange one as that was the network that I chose; I also had a booklet, which was called Know How. It detailed all you need to know about orange as a network and what they offer to you as a pay as you go customer.
*Hands free kit that not only saved me money but also will stop me from getting a fine when driving.
***** The Look*****
A small compact phone that is stylish and elegant in many ways. Black all over. A decent size LCD screen makes the phone easy to see when you use it. All the keys are hidden away when youre not using the phone. Bottom of the phone supports the charge connection, which is not covered. This I felt was a little disappointing, as on the side of the phone is the usb port, which has a sliding cover on it. On the right hand side of the phone you have a small sliver button that gives you quick access to the camera a video recorder. Left hand side supports the volume buttons, which can be used to adjust the ringer volume or adjust the speaker volume when on hands free or normal mode.
Overall I would say that this is a very stylish phone with a little room for improvement.
Size - 93.5 x 45.7 x 23.5
Display Size -176 x 220 Pixels
Colour Depth - 262K
May be a small compact phone but I tell you this phone offers many features in addition to the standard ones available on most phones. Sending text messages, making calls, alarm, calendar, and calculator. I will now share the additional features that are better on this phone than many others.
*The one I use the most is the camera; I cant believe the quality of the camera on this phone its nothing sort of amazing. At the touch of a button you have taken a good quality picture using a 1.3 pixel camera. Easily stored on to your phone or sent as a multi media message to anyone anywhere. You have 96mb of memory that you can use to store your pictures on. An easily used zoom means that you will definitely not miss any picture opportunities. Many more features on with this camera including adjusting the brightness when taking pictures.
*Using the video is just as good as using the camera and defianelty just as easy, Hitting just a few buttons will allow you to record your very own video to send it via MMS or email through your phone. I especially like the quality of the sound that this phone picks up when youre recording something. Storing the video clips is easy and straight forward, as soon as you are finished doing your video and you hit stop it will store automatically in to your phone memory.
*Blue tooth without a word is a must on any mobile phone as far as I am concerned. Phones should not be produced without it. Well this little beauty has this feature and its very easy to use once again. You can rename your phone, which means when other people search for blue tooth devices there phone will recognise your phone by its name rather than Samsung D500. One thing to be careful of when using blue tooth to transfer picture is that you select the correct phone as often your phone will pick up other phones. I live in a 3 bed roomed flat and my blue tooth can be picked up from anywhere in my house, I can even pick up my neighbour too.
Maybe one thing Samsung could have added to this phone is infrared, ok people might say that you have blue tooth why the hell do you need infrared. Well not all phones have blue tooth these days but you will find that phones without blue tooth will have infrared. Without using blue tooth to send pictures or ring tones it can be costly so check prices before using MMS.
* Emailing, Ok so who needs email on the move when you have text messaging these days. Well when youre like me and you work 12hr shifts. Emailing is perfect. Just like sending a text message apart from you enter an email address. The phone connects to the Internet and sends the email just like you would on a PC. You are limited to 160 characters per email, which is a little frustrating when you want to send a long email
*If youre like me then you often forget something when your running late and I often forget my hand free kit for the phone. Well thats not such a problem as this phone has a built in loud speaker that allows you to talk on hands free. Easily activated when on a call just simply hit the middle button and that activates the loud speaker and of course easily deactivated the same way. Ok so its not as clear as the hand free but one thing for sure it will stop you getting a fine for suing your phone whilst driving. One thing to keep in mind is that when using the loud speaker is that it picks up all the background noise so be prepared to close the car windows to allow your caller to hear you better.
*Texting- Something that most people will do a lot of, Not the easiest phone to use to text in my eyes as I feel that the predictive text is not all that good. As you will know most phones have a internal dictionary that have thousands of words that allow you to use predictive text. Well whenever I go to use predictive text I get spell word which means that the phone does not recognise the word, I spent more time adding words to the dictionary than I did texting. I then decided it would be easier and quicker if I went back to the good old-fashioned way of texting. You know one letter at a time. Each text message can hold up to 160 characters and you can even write up to 12 pages worth. One thing I do love about this phone is you can send the same message to up to 10 people at the same time, which I think, is great especially if you have something to announce or want to wish people a merry Xmas or happy new year
*Making and Receiving calls- Good quality sound which is very important to me as I spend a lot of my time on my mobile whilst at work. A nice wee thing is when you are talking to someone that talk a wee bit too loud you can easily adjust the ear piece volume accordingly without having to hang up.
*Ring tones- not something that I pay much attention to as I usually have my phone set on vibrate due to the nature of my work. But there are many different ring tones that you can choose from and of course you can add the latest polyphonic ring tones to your phone too. Having the MP3 player on this phone means that the phone will play the latest song available just like the quality of a music cd. As I said I use the vibrate setting all the time and even this can be adjusted accordingly. \You can have it set on the basic one vibrate or have it set to do multiple vibrations depending on if you receive a text, call, email or MMS. Beware that there is a setting that will continue to vibrate until you answer the text or MMS or even read the delivery report.
*Battery life of the phone Possibly the most important factor to most people when buying a new mobile phone. I use this phone to send approximately 50 text messages a day and about 1hr worth of calls each and every day and my battery can last 2/3 days. I only charge mines when it is completely dead and not before. Charging the phone from flat only takes about 2/3 hours. Which is good in comparison to many other phones on the market. Standby time is 12.5 days and talk time is 6.5hrs
I could go on and on about this phone as there is just so much to say about it and how good it is but I am sure this gives you a very good insight to a very impressive mobile phone.
Final thoughts on the Samsung D500, well given the fact its Samsungs first ever-blue tooth mobile phone on the UK market I certainly think they have done well for a first attempt. Its a small sleek design that will fit in well with most people look. Offering many features that other phones do not offer. I would have no problem recommending this phone to anyone whether its young or old male or female. A phone of this size that can hold 1000 phone book entry amazes me. Only things I would change add a cover o the bottom, of the phone to protect the battery port and add infrared to the features.

Well the Samsung D500 is quite an awesome phone; it has the ability to do pretty much whatever you want well excluding things like making a cup of tea of course. It has so much that you can do. There are thousands of people who have bought one of these phones, it can be used as a personal phone for yourself but there are also lots of companies out there who supply them to their employees because they are such good phones. I used to have one of these phones before I upgraded to a D600 which I will also be writing a review about. I had no trouble what so ever using this phone, and it allowed me to do everything I needed to, at the time it was the top of the range phone and I was quite chuffed with the value for money because its such a great phone.
Here are all of the features that can be used with the phone:
Band : Tri-band (900/1800/1900MHz)
Camera : 1.3 Mega pixel Camera with Flash and digital zoom
Display : 262,144 TFT LCD (176x220 pixels)
Dimension : 93.5×45.7 ×23.5mm
Weight : 99g
Video Recording & Messaging (H.263/MPEG4)
Music Player (MP3/AAC)
E-Mail Client / vCard / vCalendar
MMS / Java / WAP 2.0
Bluetooth / USB/ 80MB memory/ SyncML
64 Polyphonic Ring tones / MP3 Ring tone
Speaker phone / Voice Clarity
This is some quite amazing stuff, all thanks to technology. Well I will explain all of the features to you, the first one being:
Tri band: this means that the phone can be used in all different countries from around the world allowing you to keep in touch with relatives whilst on holiday etc. the only downfall to this feature is that when you are using the phone abroad then the costs to ring people are extremely high so really this is not really much of a good feature unless you are quite rich lol.
The next feature is the camera, for a mobile phone this is an excellent quality camera. Its a 1.3megapixel camera. This means that for every photo that you take on the phone there are 1.3 million dots in the picture. The more dots called pixels the better the picture and this quite good for a phone. Although digital cameras go up to 8megapixel and higher for the size of the image and the quality of the phone 1.3megapixel is more than what can be expected and I think is great.
The actual screen that you look at is an LCD screen, this means liquid crystal display which is very good quality and manufactures are now making TVs with this substance. The liquid crystal makes the screen very vibrant and bursting with colour so that it looks better than any phone before it. In my opinion I think that this is an awesome quality for a phone it just makes the phone look so much better than phones before it.
The dimensions and weight which can be seen above makes the phone very small and lightweight. Which is great; why would you want a phone in your pocket totally weighing you down and be ashamed to take it out of your pocket. With the D500 you will want to have your phone out more often and show it off to the world because its so good. As an extra feature with this phone the design of it means that the phone slides up and down which when slid upwards reveals a keypad which can be used to text and things.
As well as being able to take pictures with great quality on the phone, you can also record videos on the phone making it even better, with the ability to record things and then view them later with friends etc. I find that this is wicked. The quality of the video is also amazing as is the pictures which makes viewing them even better.
With this phone having a camera and also being able to use the camera to video then this brings us on to the next feature, being able to send video and picture messages to another phone through the use of GPRS, although it cost more to send a picture or video that a standard message it is still a great feature that you can use. I find that this feature is pretty awesome. I send pictures to my family all of the time.
The phone can also store and play music files. This is in the file format of MP3, this is a good format for music to be stored because it is small compared to some file sizes of songs that are in WMA. Anyway the phone can play these files by you going into your files and selecting the song that you want to play, or you can use the music player application so that it continuously plays. This is a good feature because it allows you to do what you want and then also play music at the same time. I find that this is a good feature because I like to listen to music whilst I text people etc.
Also because the mobile phone has GPRS then you are able to send emails and E-cards etc. this is great for the user because it also acts as a mini portable computer that can be used anywhere that you have a signal. This is a good feature for a business man which is another reason that some companies use them for there employees to be contacted when they are around the building etc.
As with most mobile phones these days the phone comes fully complete with Bluetooth so that you can send data to other Bluetooth devices wirelessly. This was an excellent invention of somebody. One of the most common things that people do is use Bluetooth printer, Bluetooth headsets and all sorts of Bluetooth things. Data can be sent from one phone to another through the use of Bluetooth. This is so that file transfer becomes even easier. You can also connect you mobile phone to a computer with the Bluetooth adapter so that you phone can be synchronised with the data on your computer and also so that files can be stored on the computer.
Well everybody loves the songs in the charts these days so why not set them so that they are your ring tone so that you can listen to it every time you phone rings. The Samsung D500 allows you to set MP3 files as you ring tone and message tone so you can have a unique ring tone. Also the phone enables polyphonic ring tones.
As you already know the phone allows you to store and play MP3 files, so why not use the loudspeaker that attaches to the side of the phone and allows you to play music even louder so everyone can hear, with this attachment the quality of sound is so much better its just quite amazing for all of this technology for a phone.
Well that sums up all of the features that the phone has. I found that it was a great phone before I upgraded, it allowed me to do anything that I wanted because it was the top of the range at that time. Wherever I went people were asking to see my phone because it was so good. I had all of the newest music on my phone because what ever I got on my computer went straight on to my phone and I also had some quite cool pictures that I got off the internet and also had lots of family photos that I had on the computer.
Now really what more could you want from a mobile phone, I cant wait to see what else technology brings us. I really wanted to spread the word of how much of a good phone his is because it really is. I would recommend it to any potential buyers as it is going for quite cheap now. I think that it can be purchased for around £80.00, from places such as Amazon and even in some manufactures shops, which is awesome value for money.
Thank you very much for reading, and I hope you read my other reviews.
I just want to write a quick review about the Samsung D500. In my opinion, this is a great quality phone with many great features. The camera takes good quality pictures and had great sound quality too. I still have not managed to sort out how to set up the email settings which is annoying when sometimes you want to email your pictures to your mates. It is a very easy phone to navigate and has a good contact list memory, but if want a phone with a good amount of memory then maybe this is not the phone for you as it has quite a limited memory. I will say this, that the reason I have mentioned it is sturdy is because I have a terrible habit of dropping my mobile yet not once has it done any damage thankfully, but the E720 I have also had I only dropped it once and all the internal screen cracked, and they want about £35.00 to replace it. No chance!
this samsung d500 is great value for money and is just as good as all the new phones that are being released recently, this is because:
new phones and the samsung d500 both have:
good colour screen
and the samsung d500 also has a sos flashlight in case you get lost in the jungle somewhere!!
i advise that if you are after a new phone but dont want to pay £300 - £400 then you should get yourself on ebay which i also highly rate a purchase a samsung d500 for anywhere in between £80 - £120
thanks for everyones ratings and good look getting your phone
its a good phone butt the camera is not tht good because you need to have a steady hand when your taking a picture if you move you hand just a little bit it will come out alllll blury i had. the video recording is exllant u can zoom in 7x on camera andd video!!! which makes the camera good. the d500 comes with a attachable speaker which makes it louder this speaker doesnt make the voice that much louder and after a while it gets quiter n quiter and then it does not work.
Lifestyle meets Business. The D500 unites all essential business tools with outstanding multimedia lifestyle features. Experience the dynamic 96 MB memory, 1.3-megapixel camera, 262,144-color TFT-LCD display, MP3 player, 64 polyphonic ring tones and Bluetooth in a phone of highest class and quality.
