Advantages: Easy to use; packed with features; looks great; reliable
Disadvantages: can't change SMS tones; dust behind the screen; voice recorder too quiet
I tend to stick to Samsung, having found them to be reliable and easy to use, with all the latest features. I have owned my D900 for almost a year now and am still very happy with it.
Appearance:
It is a slide phone, with a large colour screen. It’s not the smallest phone on the market, but is nice and slim. It fits just nicely in my hand or pocket, and is not too small to get lost in the bottom of my handbag! I bought the black version, but I believe you can buy it in different colours. I also purchased a pink casing for the phone (sorry, but I am very girlie!!)
The phone keypad locks when the phone is closed, so there is no danger of pressing buttons by accident. You can unlock this feature if you want to use the keys while it is closed.
The phone slides open with a nice, easy mechanism, to reveal the main keypad. This lights up when the phone is open. From here, you can access any of the features you need.
Features:
The best feature of the phone in my opinion is the amazing camera. It takes fantastic pictures, the best of any phone I have owned. The capacity for storing your photos is huge, and what is even better, you can purchase a memory card to store your files. I have never needed to get one of these, as found the storage on the phone plenty.
There is an image editor on the phone too, so you can play around with your photos, improve the quality or add special effects.
There is an MP3 player which I have also found to be excellent. The sound quality on the phone is fine, and mine also came with earphones.
The d900 has Bluetooth, which makes it simple to transfer files to your computer with the aid of a Bluetooth adaptor, or to share files with friends.
The phone has many other useful features such as WAP (I rarely use this, so can’t really comment on this feature); video recorder, voice recorder; currency converter, calculator and some rather cool games.
Ease of Use:
The D900 is simple to use, with a well laid out menu that is easy to navigate. You can adapt the menu to create shortcuts to the features you use the most.
The keypad buttons are just the right size – although I have fairly slim fingers - somebody with larger hands might find it more awkward to zoom around the keypad!
Battery life has been fine. I use my phone a lot, and still only need to charge it every 2-3 days.
The Downside:
As with all phones, there are a few little niggly features that are not perfect. The ringtones are not fantastic, but then you have the option of downloading ones that you like. Unfortunately though, you cannot change the tones for SMS, and they are all rather naff. Still I can live with this!
The voice recorder is not brilliant. It records, but is very quiet and I struggle to hear it.
The phone still has no scratches or dents after almost a year (and I have dropped it several times and keep it in my bag along with my keys) but dust has accumulated behind the screen. I have yet to find a way to prise the screen off to clean it without risking damaging the phone.
All in all, this is a great little phone for the price. It has all the features I need and does its job admirably. I will probably change it when the time comes to upgrade for the latest Samsung, but will be sorry to lose it, and hope the next one matches up!

- 07/11/07 I almost rated this as U because you didn't tell us how good the reception of this phone is (can you hear people, can they hear you), but I decided to let it slide this time since you're new here. Weclome and best of success to you here. |
