Advantages: All the features most need. Bluetooth. Camea. Internet. Nice slim design.

Disadvantages: Lacks the latest smartphone features that you'll never use anyway.

I bought this phone for my little brother for Christmas. I'm not sure why it is that a 12 year old needs a mobile, but all is friends have them and he's been moaning for one so I cracked.

The thing is, I'm fully aware that he doesn't want it for making calls or staying in touch. It's all about having a cool looking gadget that plays games - its just another toy - except it's a toy that he's aloud in the school playdround, unlike the Nintendo DS / PSP etc. As such this phone is ideal, it has a stylish slim design, and the slider action is not only cool, but also prevents him from accidently dialing while it is in his pockets. In my opinion the included games are also of above average quality - better than the rubbish on my HTC Touch Diamond.

So my brother was happy on Christmas day. However, what I rapidly realised is that this phone really does do everything 95% of people will ever need, and it does it extremely well within a simple interface. It has a basic camera for on the spot snaps, it has bluetooth, so will work with a car kit - it really ticks all the major boxes. This really is the kind of phone that you would have had to fork out serious money for 2 years ago, and would have considered cutting edge at the time. Now it makes an ideal phone for users who just need the basics, and represents extremely good value.

On a side not, I bought this and another Pay as You Go mobile for my other brother from Phones4u at the same time as I was taking out a new contract for myself. In order to get me sign up on the spot they took £50 off the price of the Pay as You Go mobiles and through in £10 free talktime on each - making them much cheaper than any of the offers on this site at the time of writing. If you have some leverage with the highstreet retailers, it may be worth checking what offers they can do before ordering.

Summary: An excellent first phone, or for those that want a simple yet good bargain mobile.
