Advantages: slim, light and very attractive on the eye
Disadvantages: instruction booklet not very comprehensive and texting takes time to get used to
First impressions of the Samsung SGH-J700 EDGE Tri-phone is its sleekness it has an effortless slider action, unlike the usual fliptop Samsung phones I have tried/used in the past which I always found to be clumsy. The phone came in Black but is also available in pink and has a glossy modern look, A look that will take this phone far and help keep its shelf life. The Black I felt added to its James Bond quality for me.
Navigation is simple with this phone mainly focusing on the rather trendy looking dial in the middle and the pages kind of glide back and forth on the screen which makes you feel like you own a quality classy phone. The size also deserves a mention being very slim at less than 15mm deep and quite easily fits into my purse or pocket, it doesnt feel bulky or cumbersome like some other phones at just 92 grammes.
Features of this phone include Wap, Gsm, Blue tooth, fm Radio and music player and a 1.3 megapixel camera with video facilty and at first look you would be inclined to think that this phone didnt really do that much compared to others of its era, however I find it to have features that you would use like the call manager that help you keep track of the call time and cost, something that even though I have had rather swanky phones before always seems to be missing and you have to ring or text for this info.
I particulary like the calender function with phone and find it is superb at organising me, for instance I can put in someones birthday and it will remind me every year. I can also set an alarm to remind me as many days as I like before or even my choice of weeks before.
I only have 2 gripes with the phone, texting, I did find it quite difficult to text at first as the words have a large black box around them which can be a little off putting but I did get used to it eventually.
My second concern I had was that when I tried to send a multi media message it just kept coming up that the recipient may not be able to see the message and up comes an ok button, I clicked on this but then it came back and said unknown subscriber, even though the person is in my phonebook. So this is something I will need to ring up to sort out.
Oh and I also found the instruction book to be lacking in information and somethings I needed to know didnt seem to be listed.
Talk time is 1200 minutes and upto 250:00 standby hours.
Blue tooth and usb connectivity makes transfering any pictures or music to your computer very easy and the phone comes with a disc from Samsung which helps even a novice like me to upload my pictures and save them onto my pc however this phone does have the facility of an expandable memory, which is basically a memory card that can fitted into the slot on the side of the phone.
Attention for detail is key about the Samsung SGH J700 from the glossy black/pink exterior to the very swish little caps that turn to the side to allow you to put your charger and usb in the ports.
To the smooth glide action of the phone to the clever yet effortless way the screens glide back and forth something that needs to be seen to understand.
All in all I would say for the contemporay fashionista amongst us this is a must.
