Advantages: Dual Screen, Inside one colour, Polyphonic Ringtones, Looks Really Cool
Disadvantages: Holds just 10 text messages., Can't download games
The Samsung T100 is a beautiful product. Its sheer design makes your mouth water. This was the first mobile phone I ever purchased and the only one. I did not want to have a mobile phone until I saw this product. I was in awe. It was and in my opinion still is the most beautiful mobile phone around. It definitely set the precedent in terms of design, colour screens and polyphonic ringtones. I paid £300 for this mobile when it first came out on the market without being chained down to a specific contract. I’m sure you can find this phone now for around £200 - £250. What you get when you buy: ------------------------------------ - Samsung T100 mobile phone - Two batteries: one slim-line and one thicker. The thicker one lasts longer than the slim one. But I use the thicker one as it gives a better grip as well as gives more battery life. - A hands free kit - Detailed User Guide - A CD ROM with ringtones to replace the tones already on the mobile phone - The CD ROM comes with software to upload and change ringtones to your hearts content. Features: ------------ - Colour screen with 4096 colours. - Size: 88 x 50 x 21.9 - Weight: 94g - Max Talk Time: 150 mins - Max Stand By: 152 hours - T9 predictive Text - Voice dial, command and memo - Text Messaging - WAP Access - Stores 600 Names in the phone book - Dual screen. Inside one is colour and outside in black text. - Screen on front of phone so it lets you know who is calling before answering - Screen on front also show time & date, signal strength and battery life. - There is also a service light that lights up in varying colours to let you know you are receiving signals and it changes colour rapidly when you get a call, which is a nice function. - Stores Missed/received/dialled calls (Up to 15 for each) - Stores your call
time, which is useful if you have a monthly contract with a certain amount of free calls. - Stores 42 Ringtones and 3 custom and 2 downloadable ringtones. You can upload your own over 12 pre-installed tones! - You can upload eight user images. - Allows you to alter the phone, network, security, LCD/LED and browser settings. - Contains a scheduler, calculator, memo, To Do List, Calendar, World Time, Clock, and alarm. The alarm can be set to daily, once, or weekly and its ringtone can be changed. - Then you have the WAP services where you can bookmark site and jump quickly to your favourites. - There is also an option for ‘My Services’. This option has around ten emergency or useful numbers such as RAC Breakdown, Traffic Line, Talking pages, etc. The Samsung T100 has many great features but now is starting to become a little outdated. Nowadays we almost expect the newest phones to have a built in swivel camera, a colour screen, polyphonic ringtones and downloadable Java games. The T100 gave us the best features in its time with its wonderful colourful screen and polyphonic ringtones, but now they are becoming the norm. The T100 has 3 games installed. Unfortunately you cannot replace these or download any other games along with these. The Java technology for downloading games to your mobile came a bit too late for the T100. This is a disappointed as downloading new games like that of the old classic Pac Man is something that is really useful. The three games pre-installed on the T100 are: 1. Air Shooting - A highly addictive air shooting game. 2. Space war - A game where you try to cut away land for other spacecrafts to disintegrate into thin air. 3. My Pet - Just like the Tamagochi phenomenon T100 - The Good ----------------------- The ringtones are awesome. I downloaded many of my favourite tunes on polyph
onic to my computer and used the CD software on my computer to upload them to my phone. It’s very easy and really cool. Even better, I went to www.mobilemods.net and registered. I downloaded the PSM player, which allows me to convert Midi files and transfer them into ‘.mms’ files, which are the files used for the ringtones. Using the PSM player I can then edit the ringtone to make it start or finish where I want it too. I can make it long or short, make it vibrate or not, and much more. Another nice little feature is the option of setting certain ringtones for certain people. For example, you could have Kylie Minogue playing if your friend is called Kylie and Michael Jackson if you have a friend called Michael – lame, I know but just an example! Any images look great on this phone. Many colour phones are not too great in displaying colour images, but the T100 displays pictures brilliantly. You can also upload up to 8 user images. So any snap’s of you can be placed on and shown as a screensaver or you can choose to have just one image showing. The signal strength is quite good with this phone. Quite regularly my friends and I would be in work and my phone would have the best signal between the lot of us. 600 names on the phone book is a major plus. Plenty of space is what we need. Our phone can become clogged up with loads of different numbers. You might say having 600 is excessive, as you won’t have that many friends! But its useful for storing not only numbers for friends and family but for restaurants, ticket lines, and other useful numbers. You can never have enough room for phone numbers. One hundred are stored on the sim card and five hundred are stored directly on the phone. The phone automatically assigns a ‘hot number’ to everyone on your phone book, where you press 3 buttons and press dial and it will phone the person the number you press is assigned to.
The T9 predictive text is a great time saver and you should take the short few minutes it takes to learn it. T100 - The Bad --------------------- The T100 though can only store 10 text messages that you receive, which is quite annoying as you always get some you would like to keep for whatever reason. Every so often you have to decide to get rid of them unfortunately. Samsung should really have made this better. When you consider you can store up to 600 names on the phone book, you think they could have sacrificed a few of these for some more space to store text messages. The voice dial is not too great either, as you need your surroundings to be quiet. A busy road might be enough to upset the voice dial or whatever. T100 – The Ugly ---------------------- If you’re waiting on the ugly, don’t. There isn’t No Ugly! Not with this phone. It’s all glitz and glamour with this and it makes you feel great when you are talking on it. Conclusion ---------------- I’ve had this phone for nearly two years and I am extremely happy with it. If you are thinking of purchasing it, I ensure you that this is a quality phone. There’s not too many things I would change about this product if I could. Maybe, allow for downloading Java games, the addition of a camera and that it would hold a few more text messages, but beside that this is a superb phone that will improve your style and look cool. I hope this review has been helpful and if you have any questions, don’t be afraid to ask.

- 18/02/04 Excellent review. I'll stick with my boring old Siemens A50, I never have much use for all those features. |
