Advantages: looks good, great upgrade, some good features
Disadvantages: low battery life, sometimes slow, some features poor
On my birthday, I needed a new phone, badly (my old model, a Siemens CL75, was on its last legs and pretty out dated.) A quick browse through the orange website, and I found this little beauty.
~~~~~~~Phone Appearance~~~~~~~~~~~
I have the Black model of the Samsung; however they are also available in metallic purple, silver and blue.
It's a relatively slim model too, it's 10.9 mm thick and has a length of 9.5 cm., so it's easy to fit into a pocket or a bag without taking too much room, The screen (LCD) Is about 4.5 x 3.5, it is also a slide phone, so again it's very compact.
~~~~~~~~~Graphics.~~~~~~~~~~~~
The graphics are quite basic for the menu part of the phone, on the main menu there is a grid of cartoon images with title part above to tell you what it does, you also have the option of choosing block list or list menu, you can also pick a greeting message which will show when you turn your phone on.
~~~~~~~~Features.~~~~~~~~~~~
The u600 has many of the essential features, there is of course Bluetooth, it is simple to use, with activation, name options etc, however, if you leave your blue tooth on all the time it does tend to wear your battery down quicker, I have mostly had good Bluetooth service, but quite a few times items I have tried to receive from friends have failed.
There is also music player, again easy to use there is already a default piece of music on, but afterwards you can download songs from your computer or receive them from friends via Bluetooth, you can have a maximum volume of 14, ok if your listening without headphones, but not much good if several of you are trying to listen, thankfully, a set of headphones are included in the pack.
The camera and video, the resolution is 3.2 mega pixels so not great quality, and it can be slow taking the picture, the video does not last long either, but it is convenient , there is also image editor, which allows you to warp, colour or put text into your pictures.
Games, there are several free java trial games in the application folder, they're ok for a quick go, but unless you buy, you cannot get the full versions.
Sound recorder, rather bad quality if you are recording a loud sound.
~~~~~~~~~~~~The pack~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the pack I received from orange, I got:
.The phone
.Phone charger
. Hands free Bluetooth ear piece (Have not used yet.)
.Samsung PC studio disc.
. USB cable, for pc
.TV outlet cable.
. Instruction booklet.
~~~~~~~~Performance~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The battery on the phone will last for about 4-6 days, if you don't use any applications like the music player or Bluetooth, if you leave either on the battery will likely die in about 2-3 days, so make sure you turn them off if you're not using them to save the battery.
The phone memory is pretty small if you're planning to keep music, photos or videos on the phone, a memory card is necessary, but if you download music or videos onto the phone, they go directly onto the phones memory rather than the memory card.
As I have added more files and such onto my phone, I've found it sometimes when I'm going through my phone, the keys, which you can set touch sensitivity for, sometimes don't appear to work, especially if you are trying to cancel a message when sending.
~~~~~~~~~Price.~~~~~~~~~~~~
I bought my phone from the orange site for about £50 + a £10 top up; on the Samsung site it is £124.80 sim free.
Summary: good if youre upgrading from an older model
