This phone is pretty old and was my first phone and I have just found it and though it would review it. The phone is not sold in shops as it is pretty old now and there are better phones but you can find them on Amazon for about £20 which is not too bad for a phone with camera, Bluetooth and video. This review is also on my ciao account under the username alexcatt97
===Look and feel===
I know there are not many flip up phones on the market right now but I think that they look very good but despite many people flip up phones no being on the market, I think that this phone does not look too old and looks simple but good and is 10cm x 4.5cm when not flipped up and when flipped up it is 15cm x 4.5cm so not to big and can easily fit in your pocket. It is not too heavier considering it is quite old but heavier than more recent makes of phones. One thing I do not like about the look of this phone is that it is has an aerial which makes the phone look older than it is but it does not stick out too much and you could probably hide it. The camera can swivel around easily to the screen side for a taking a picture of your self or you can put the camera facing the no screen side to take a picture of something else or someone. There is a small screen on the front of the phone when not flipped up which has the time on it. The phone can also fit easily fit in your hand comfortably when checking the time, calling or texting. Overall, the look and feel of this phone is good considering it is an old model but many people would like the design of this phone because of that but I think it would be good for people who just want a simply designed phone.
I have found that many Samsung phones have very good durability such as the "Samsung SGH - J700" and this phone also does as it can with stand many drops and hit's and will not break easily and I have had it for a long time although i no longer use it. I think that is phone is very strong and definitely stronger than more modern models which are weaker such as the Iphone which a hard enough drop could shatter the screen. Although the phone is quite strong, when you drop it, the battery can come off like many other phones which can damage the battery and sim but despite that the durability of this phone is good and better than more recent phones.
The Reception of the phone its self is not as good as other's but as it is by Vodafone which is a good mobile tariff with good reception and connection in most places the reception you get from this phone is still good but again would not be as good as other more recent phones. Overall, the reception quality of this phone is probably average but not as good as other's.
===Range Of Features===
The phone, for an old phone has a good of features such as the camera, Bluetooth and games which i think is good although someone buying this phone today would probably only want a simple phone and would not use these features. The phone also has Vodafone live which is internet so that is quite good for an old model although the internet is not as good as other model's. The phone also includes a Music player, Voice recorder, Calculator, Converter (Currency, Length, Weight, Volume, Area and temperature) and world clock. You can also edit photos that you have taken on the phone and put things like back rounds and different effects onto the picture. The phone also has a calendar like most phones and overall, I was quite impressed about the amount of features on this model especially that it has internet.
===Ease To Use===
The phone is very simple and great for anyone especially people that are not the best with technology but people who good with technology and want a more technical phone, this would not be the phone for them but the camera is very easy to use as you just click on the camera button and click the middle button to take a picture. The internet is also very easy to use as you just simply enter the url of the website into Vodafone live and it will take you to the website you want. It is easy to change all the settings because they are all categorised in the settings options so you can easy find the thing you want to change and change it easily. Overall, this is a very simple phone and is better for people who are not as good with technology as others as it is pretty easy to use.
===Value for Money===
On Amazon you can purchase this phone for £19.99 which is very cheap considering it has a camera and internet and for most people who want a simple phone with good features that would be a great price and it would be a good buy for some one looking for a good phone. I would definitely recommend this to people who don't want to pay much for a good phone but I would not recommend it to someone who wants a new model and more features but overall, I liked the phone when I used it which was a long time ago.
I got this phone on a monthly contract and so presumed for that reason that it was a good, new phone. When given my options of phones that were available with my contract I was disappointed but after using a friends Samsung agreed to get this phone. I didn't want to stray away from the Nokia's that I'd been using for years without any problems.
USING THE PHONE
After using Nokia's and their menu systems for years I found the Samsung's menu system strange to use at first but after a couple of days this was find and I soon got used to it. I then found Nokia's systems hard to use. The system is the one that nearly all phones on the market now have.
A good feature of this Samsung model, compared to previous ones, is that you can't take photos in your pocket so one good feature is that you no longer get lots of black images that you can't remember taking. The camera itself isn't of great quality but you can transfer the images to PC via the cable provided and these are of ok quality, enough to use as small display pictures. Another feature of the cable is that it allows you to transfer full length music tracks to the phone so they can be used as ringtones. I had some trouble transfering some kinds of tracks but I think this was due to the file format. The phone does have bluetooth and if files are a small enough size these transfer without problems, however for larger files this then becomes a proble (see below). Like most phones now on the market this phone features several games, as I've not really played on these I can't offer much comment on these however I presume they are pretty much the same quality as most other phone games. The phone size is compact enough to fit nicely in your hand it does look a bit bulky when in your pocket.
The battery life of the phone is awful and it needed charging every night to ensure it lasted a while. The phone features blue tooth as most phones do now-a-ways but again this wasn't without problems, often the files wouldn't transfer or would stop half way through. The speaker quality of the phone is awful and several times calls had to be cut short due to this and the poor network quality (vodafone).The phone features video recording which I thought would be a great feature, however the length of recording you can do is very poor, this was annoying as I presumed you'd get a decent amount of time for the recording. The phone has a very good standby time however this only applies if you do not use the phone at all, using the phone for texting and calls daily the battery life is VERY poor and needs charging to full daily. Having now upgraded to new phone which is slimmer and sleaker then the size of this one seems really big, this will however depend upon what you're used to.
Overall, this phone is probably one of the worst I've owned and for the price I think you can certainly get a better quality phone for the same price or cheaper.
i've had the Samsung SGH-Z140V for a fair few months and before that both my parents had it for a yr each - and it still looks brand new but i recently discovered 1 major problem- i droppd it down the toilet a couple of nights ago and the screen is now officially broke- does anyone no how much it'll cost to get a new screen (main and sub-lcd) fitted as all my pics,tones and vids r stuck on there or does anyone no how to get onto the media files and which keys to press so i can send my stuff to a dif phone please
I've had this phone for a couple of years now and to be fair - it still looks (almost) as good as new. Surprisingly both the outside and inside screens still work perfectly - although they are very small for phones of today.
After a while, it is easy to become agitated with this phone due to the irritatingly long antenna sticking out and in my opinion - it ruins a great looking device. You will also soon notice that with extensive use, the back cover (which is also the battery!) heats up and deturs you from making calls.
One of my faivourite features is undoubtedly the 3G aspect. This phone allows you to watch a wide range of TV channels on your mobile subject to monthly charges. These channels range from Sky Sports 1,2 and 3, to the History Channel and Biography. Furthermore, more channels are scheduled to go mobile in the future. 3G service is now provided by all major networks including 3 and Vodafone (My faivourite). When watching TV however, enjoyment is sometimes hampered by the small screen. What's more, many channels load slowly and require consistant buffering. This make some major channels such as Sky Sports almost unwatchable.
This phone has around 50mb of inbuilt memory which is more than enough if you're planning not to carry music and videos around on it. I have not yet run out of room for games and phone numbers etc.
Making calls or video calls is especially easy. Also, there is a shortcut key to access the cameras 1 megapixel video or still camera. Admittedly, the camera is way of the pace of modern mobiles'.
All in all, this makes a good phone for the "only use it sometimes" mobiler. An avid high-tech fan will have been happy with this phone - two years ago.
