Advantages: good size, simple to use
Disadvantages: bad touchscreen
First impressions:
- nice and slim
- light and fits in pocket nicely
- relatively sturdy from just dropping it. No scratches yet... apart from in one corner.
This phone, you would imagine, would be a high flying gadget from looking at the touchscreen and shiny surface. However, dont be fazed by this. In fact, i would say this phone is probably average for a smartphone. From reading this, dont be so quick to disregard it however. There are a few perks to it and it was one of the first phones to enter the touchscreen market, meaning you wouldnt expect it to be perfect especially now we have the latest models.
Good points: The software is very much that of samsung. They have made the phone very easy to use with the main menu showing all that you need from messages to phone to calendar and music. (not to mention the good camera as well). In this sense, the phone is great for anyone wishing to get hold of a simple, easy to use smartphone. i would say it really is training wheels before you enter into the smartphone world. All of its jobs are done well with the messaging service having a qwerty keyboard when you turn the phone horizontal and a normal keyboard when portrait. The phone is also very easy to use to call people. Just what you would expect really. It has games which can be entertaining for a while and the camera which was actually what i found to be surprising. You have the option to edit your photo e.g. crop and create borders making for fun usage. On the home screen, there is a bar on the left hand side. You can slide this out or in to hide it and you can place on it your favourite icons to make for quick use instead of navigating through the phone. This was one of my favourite features which is unique to samsung.
Not so good points: The main one (and probably only one) is the touchscreen. Even though it is the only one, it is probably also the most important aspect because it is the actual selling point of the phone. The touchscreen is made of plastic when now they are all made of glass. This makes it hard to use because you find yourself pressing down hard to use something. This makes texting a drag.If you wanted this phone i wouldnt recommend it on the basis of the touchscreen but on the basis that it is a phone that is easy to use and has all that you need.
Summary: not great but what you'd expect from when touchscreens were only new to the market.
