Advantages: Cheap, great games
Disadvantages: screensavers are a little poor
When it comes to all things expensive I am a real liability. I lost my wedding ring within a few months of receiving it, I have lost countless purses, handbags and of course mobile phones. If I don't lose them carelessly then I drop them, smash them, or sit on them and they break. As you can imagine when I smile sweetly at my husband and ask him to shell out for yet another new phone he is not impressed and moans for ages about how I should learn to look after the things he buys me. Of course he is right, but I do need a phone. It is really important that the school be able to get hold of me when they need to and I have an elderly aunt that I like to be able to keep a check on in and out. I have to admit I am a gadget collector too and I like all the fancy things that the more modern phones are capable of. Let me introduce you to the answer to my prayers. The Sendo S330. Sendo, the company, was established in 1999 so is a virtual baby when it comes to mobile phone supplying. I have to admit I had never heard of them until I was wandering around Salisbury's one evening and happened to spot this little phone, nestled among the nokia 33 whatevers. What attracted me to it? Well being the bargain hunter that I am, it was of course the price. This little belter was on the shelf at a penny under forty pounds. Add that to the fact that you got a very inviting 2000 nectar points thrown in, which equals a tenner off the shopping and you can see why I had it off the shelf and at the checkout quicker than you could say supermarket sweep. This particular phone was set up for pay as you talk under the Vodafone tariffs. I like Vodafone so I was quite happy with that. The Sim card was already installed and ready to go and being the big kid I am I couldn't wait to have a play with it. Let me tell you what I expected for the price. I expected something very basic, no thrills, no fancies. I just needed something
that I could use in emergencies. When I turned this phone on I was amazed at what I had got for my money. Colour. I have to say I hadn't expected that. Not just colour but graphics and a cute little jingle as the screen came alive, displaying the Vodafone logo. The phone itself is grey in colour, about four inches in length and is very light. It fits nice and snuggly in the palm of my hand. The keys are quite small, but they are raised and metallic in appearance which makes them a little easier to use. I have to say though, when I first made a call I did nearly ring the wrong number once or twice, until I got used to the buttons. The phone can hold up to 500 contact numbers. Plenty for me. I don't think I even know 500 people. Entering a new name and number is simple and the contacts are easily accessed from the main display. When it comes to messaging. I actually found this one easier to use than my last phone, which was a fancy Nokia 5210. You can send or receive text messages of up to 160 characters. Seeing as the messages I send usually consist of WHERE ARE YOU?..... WHAT TIME WILL YOU BE BACK? and BRING MILK WITH YOU, this is fine for me. If you need to send a longer message the phone will automatically break your message down into smaller messages which are joined together as one message when all the small messages have been sent or received. There is also a chat function which I found intriguing. Reception is excellent and this phone has a built in antenna. Calling is crisp and clear. The games on this phone are amazing. I would definitely say that these games put the ones on the Nokia 5210 to shame. The graphics are clear and crisp and the games are really fun and very different. Ten Pin is a really great bowling Game. The idea is to knock over the pins by stopping a moving ball at the right angle to knock the pins over. Sounds complicated. It definitely isn't and it's gre
at fun. Hey you get to play ten frames too, just like the real thing. Splat is a phone version of that game you play at the seaside, you know the one where you wait for the gopher to pop it's head up and then you knock it out. Well these little gophers are really cute and graphically very good. Instead of hitting it on the head with a mallet, you have to hit the button that corresponds with the hole it pops out of. When you get it right....Splat! Flippit is solitaire, great graphics, cool game. Splash is a game that I knew as pipes. You know, the one where you have to join all the pipes up to stop the water escaping. No long line, like the snakes on the Nokia, these are real pipes and the water is a beautiful shade of blue. Quaddro is connect 4. One of my favourite games, mind you this little phone is hard to beat and you have to be on your toes. Scizzors is that old favourite, Scissors, Paper , Stone. Again, great graphics, cool game. I was really impressed by the colours on this phone. Nothing wishy washy about these. The phone comes with 25 polyphonic ring tones. Ok, these aren't the best known tunes around, but you can download more to your phone, and for the price...Who's moaning? There is of course the vibrate function that most phones now seem to have. You can also download new logos for your phone, although there are lots of little moving emoticons already installed for you to use and send when messaging your mates. Add all this to the alarm clock, calendar, calculator, memo, screensaver, and wallpaper facilities and you begin to see why I was thrilled with what I was getting for the money I paid. The screensavers that come with this phone are the only thing I would complain about. They are small and very poor. I did download some better ones though so I can't really complain. The Sendo S330 has a wap browser. I noticed that it was much quicker at connecting
than my old Nokia had been too. When you are not using your phone it sets itself to standby. This means the light goes off and the main screen displays nothing but the time. At the touch of a button though it springs to life and the nice bright display appears to guide you. One thing I noticed with this phone was that when you are playing a game the phone does not switch to standby in the middle of it. My Nokia used to do that all the time. I would be playing a game and suddenly I wouldn't be able to see what I was doing. Very annoying it was too. The phone has Up to 480 hours of standby time and up to 7 ½ hours of talk time. It takes much less time to charge than my Nokia did and I seem to charge it twice a week, more out of habit than necessity. Well there you have it. My new phone. It's light, it's tough, it's fun and best of all it was cheap. A real bargain. I would say this was the perfect phone for anyone who is just a little bit too rough with their phone and has a tendency to damage them on a regular basis. This would also be the perfect phone for those little monsters of yours who desperately want a phone for Christmas. The kids would love these games. Mine do. The phone is easy to use, easy to understand and loads of fun. Please don't be put off by the name of this phone. Have a look at it. I think you might be very surprised by what you find here. If you need more technical information than this, might I suggest you checkout the Sendo website, as I am definitely the last person to ask about the technical aspects of this or any other phone. http://www.sendo.com/ Thanks for reading.
