Advantages: Funky easy to use design, Funky Screen, Funky converstion maker...just PLAIN FUNKY!!!
Disadvantages: Sender's SMS number comes up on screen rather than their name, the PROslide feature is dead cool but the novelty can (and does indeed) wear out after a long space of time with it, it also isnt manufactured anymore
OK let's start by saying that this is my first ever-mobile phone. My parents bought it for me as a Christmas present in 1999 when it first came out as a pay as you go phone. I LOVE MY SIEMONS SL10 and I have never met anyone else owning it! Nor have I sat in a pub without someone saying "Hey Funky Phone!" so if you want to make more friends (and free drinks) buy this phone and your troubles are over! (Lol;-)) Whenever some people see it at first they ask, "Where are the number keys?" and this is because they are hidden underneath a sliding compartment making the phone very compact and fun to use! My parents bought this phone for me because of this feature - they know that I'm quite clumsy (:-p) and just knew that I'd sit on the phone or something and end up dialling a random number or even worse the emergency services! (Yes! I know most phones have a key lock - but that sorta thing always seems to go wrong when I've hold of it!) With this sliding part you have the option to either phone people up with the phone shut (as long as the number is programmed in your phone book!) or to keep the phone open and shut it to end the call - which looks quite impressive after you've spoken to your Mum on it as your walking down the street! You can also set the phone up to answer the call by opening the phone up instead of pressing the green button! The front has 6 buttons that are underneath the large screen. The two top ones are there to control and select specific things that you see on the screen. The phonebook button gives you access to your phonebook and the top left ones give you arrows to go up and down the list and the top right key is to view the phone number. The green key I to make the call, and also a redial/call-back function button - acting like a mini phone book of those who you've phoned and those who've phoned you. The menu button gives you access to functions such as; · Ringer, you can choo
se out of 15 different ring tones - some well known tunes such as the "Entertainer", Bach tunes, and the usual ringer tones. Here you can also select the volume, whether the phone is silent/has a tone/beeps when active, and also select whether you want it to vibrate or not (you need a vibrating battery for this function though which costs around £30-£40!) · Messaging; you can choose out of Text messaging (SMS - all us mobile phone fanatics should know what that means!), Voice messaging - it automatically calls your voice-mail box up, Missed Calls - shows the calls you've missed when your phone is on, Local Broadcast/Broadcast Settings; so you can find out stuff like the weather, network info (only on contract though!) · Divert - all the settings to what you want to be divert to your voicemail such as All Calls, All Unanswered etc · Control Use - Key Lock (so you can decide whether opening/closing the phone locks/unlocks the phone or just press the red button quickly to lock the phone, its best to do the latter cus the novelty of opening and closing the phone can soon wear out!) Call Screening, PIN control, Loan Phone (a security measure so that you can put a password in and then the phone will only let your SIM card in-so if anyone does nick it they cant actually use it!), · GSM Service; things like whether you want a call waiting facility on (which is tres annoying when you're on the phone to someone else cus you think something's wrong with the phone!) and other network names etc (if you're on a contract and want to roam) · Time/Charge - preference settings whether you want the time you've spent on a call to appear on screen after you've ended it, and things like that! · Language! - Not very funny to do when sitting in a pub and pratting about on it -ESPECIALLY IF ITS MY PHONE AND I CANT TRANSLATE DUTCH TO GET IT BACK TO NORMAL!!!! · Clock/Alarm - Time settings, if you want the phone to turn on automa
tically you can do, alarm settings and general clock settings etc · Set-up - Key use (whether you want the keys to make a sound when you press them!), whether you want the proSLIDE to accept or end the call by opening/closing the phone, Infrared setting, service tones - so it beeps when you first turn on and the network is found, and also when your calls are connected etc, this can be turned on or off! Own Greeting - so you can put a message on for you to read as you turn your phone on, Display - so you can choose what colour the screen can be and if you want the phone to light up when in use, phone status - just a load of numbers that show your phone's ID number etc. The screen is 3 toned - blue, red and green, and although some users find it hard to read I find it really clear. And some people complian about the feel of the keys - but I prefer them compared to other phones. There aren't any games on the phone but if you want that then buy a Nokia! This is a very funky phone that's easy to slip in a handbag without any fuss. The desk charger is pretty cool too - you just sit the phone in it and away it charges! My only criticism would be the fact that when you receive a text- message the sender's SMS number appears rather than their name (if it's in your phone-book) but this can be easily overcome by quickly pressing the green button and then the red (cus it takes a few seconds for the phone to connect). Only thing is... the phone is only available on pay as you go with Vodafone and? this phone is no longer in manufacture, I found out this through phoning up my insurance company when someone accidentally sat on it and cracked my screen all the way down the middle - and as you can expect I was not a happy bunny about it (we were all a little bit drunk and I cried hysterically about it for a few minutes). It could not be exchanged for another of the same model - I could only get a Panasonic (which I dislike) or a Siemons C1
0. I don't know why I didn't choose the C10 but I decided to stick with my beloved SL10 and still have it today. The robustness of the SL10 is quite good, I mean yes - if someone sits on it the screen is bound to crack! And last week my number 7 key peeled off! (The keys are like laminated vinyl) but it's quite funky now I can see what lights the keys up! But the phone has lasted a good year and a quarter, which is longer than most phones that my friends have had! So if you are ever offered an intact Siemons SL10 then GO 4 IT! It's such a compact, easy to use, funky conversation maker you'll wonder what you did without it
