Advantages: Small and Easy to use.

Disadvantages: Can be fiddly to use and expensive

I decided to buy an SL55 Siemens mobile because of its size.
I hate heavy bulky phones that take up all the room in my bag so the SL55 was the way to go.

My budget was a little on the small size so I looked up E-Bay and found a refurbished model for £57.00. After a couple of days the phone died on me so thanks to the dodgy person who sold me the phone as Im sure they knew it was broken.
I have now learnt a valuable E-Bay lesson. Buy with a guarantee. Im too trustworthy thats my problem.
Ive decided to try and get it fixed.

Anyway Im going to discuss the use of the phone as I did like using it for the time that it worked.

The Exterior:

My SL55 is grey and Red.
The colour is different to the normal black and silver so I found it eye catching.
Its a very small phone. The dimensions are approximately 80x50x35mm when closed.
Its a sliding phone which extends for a view of the keypad.

The face of the phone has the facility to answer and hang up. You can also visit the main menu scrolling up and down to the different files.
You only really need the keypad to call numbers that are not in your address pad and to unlock your phone.

The Functions:

What I love about this phone is that its basic. It can call, text and e-mail. It can also take pictures but you will need to buy an external camera to add onto the phone. This was one of the very first camera add on phones which is a little dated now.

As you can imagine, the SL55 has a very basic menu with a colour screen.
The menu options available are, address book, text, extras, e-mail and games.
This makes it incredibly easy to use.

The SL55 can download polyphonic ring tones although it doesnt have vibrate, which is disappointing as many people use this function, especially in meetings.
I also found the volume control a little disappointing. It has a low, medium and high control instead of the rising platform volume control that that majority of mobiles have.
I found high a little too loud and medium a little too low but thats just me being fussy.

The Manual:

I liked the manual a lot because it was in English and when I say English, I mean English.
No Jargon is what Im talking about.
The instructions are easy to follow but to be honest with you all you dont need the manual.
Just turn the phone on using the red (hang up) button, play around with the menu functions and away you go. Its eeeeasyyyyyyyyy.

My Final Verdict:
Apart from being completely gutted about the condition of my phone, I like the SL55.
Its perfect for me.
If youre an anti-bulk phone kind of person like me, you will love this little phone.
You maybe disappointed with the lack of fancy extras like video, blue tooth and an internal camera but then this phone will not be for you.
This phone also has small buttons, which will be a little difficult for people with big fingers or long fingernails. It shouldnt be too much of a problem as most people keep all their numbers in their mobile phone book, unless youre a character in a soap in which Im sure you know all your friends mobile phone numbers in your head especially your most hated neighbours. Im telling you, they all do it.

You maybe thinking, How can you defend this mobile when yours is in mobile heaven. I see your point but I dont know the history of my phone.
Maybe it fell in a pond or was used as a football, Im not sure.
However I do know lots of happy SL55 owners who still have this model. They have not experienced any problems with this model so I think I was just unlucky Arrrrrrrr.

If you are thinking of buying the SL55 then try checking out E-Bay. There are a lot of SL55s on E-Bay with guarantees so spare yourself the pain I went through and buy from an E-Bay shop.
If I have put you off E-bay forever then try other Internet shops for new SL55s. They can be expensive especially Pay as you Go. I found £108 to be the cheapest.

Thanks for reading.

I loved my one, quick tip though...it doesn't survived a dip in the toilet!
