Disadvantages: Not the best phone around, Scratches easily

OK, sorry for all you SonyEricsson fans out there but... What a load of pants the J70 is. I got mine (and so did my Dad) in Feb 2002 and I was getting on really well with it, loved the polyphonic/Harmony melodies, easy sms and all the other things it does but... 6 weeks ago it all went wrong and the phone stopped (well ok it froze) so I was used to this from having several Nokias so I did the usual, remove the battery and start again, but time and time again it froze, then to add insult to injury the frelling speaker stopped and when the phone rang all you could here was the speaker pulsing, so with the phone being under a year old I took it back to the carphonewarehouse and then kindly sent it back to SonyEricsson and I waited 4 weeks for it to come back (and I didn't have a backup phone for that time). The I got a nice call from CPWH and was told my phone was back. So when I got there they ran me through what had been done (software update) and that was all they had done. So off I went home and when I turned the phone back on..... it FROZE. So back I went to the CPWH and they sent it back again and it's been 2 weeks and I wait to see if I get another software update. And low and behold the same thing happened to my Dads J70 so went back to get "repaired" and he's been waiting 5 weeks as they replaced the speaker and did a software update and yet he's still waiting for it. I know my bitching seems to be pointed at The Carphonewarehouse but it's meant for Sony bloody Ericsson. My Dad has got so fed up with waiting for his phone he went and got the new Samsung T100 and loves it to bit (now thats what I call polyphonic tones and all 16 voices of them). I know several other people out there thats had the same thing go wrong with thier Sony's. Save your money and get a real mobile phone (Sagem MY X-5 or Samsung T100. Oh just one last thing that poped into my head at 00.36am, the shape of the J70 would make a v. good door wedg

e for letting that fresh air flow through the house :) It won't let me put it in the price thing but I paid £99 for it on T_Mobile and I think i was upto £30 more on other networks.

Ok just read some on the comments left by some people and I would like to add these few additional comments. Firstly, Carphonewarehouse have been really good with the problems and have themselves been a fed up with the length of time it takes SonyEricsson to sort the phones out, and CPWH want the phones sorted as much as I do. My dads phone came back the other day and so far everything seems to working fine on it as they replaced the speaker and microfone and did the usual software updates. Then in the phones favour, massive phonebook 700, good clear 4 grey scale screen and it was one of the first phones out with polyphonic and harmony melodies and you can send pictures messages with the same melodys but only to other compatable SonyEricssons, can't comment on the WAP thing as I haven't used it since I got a Motorola V100 and didn't go much on WAP. You can record your own sounds for ringtones (3 for main ringer at 10 seconds each) and 5 event sounds (2 seconds each, for SMS, alarm etc) but these eat in the in-phone phonebook (but then again my sim card holds 200 names and numbers) ,built in handsfree via the speaker and normal headset handsfree. I do like the menu setup (floating circles). You can also add your own wallpapers to customise your phone. I also like the satin silver finish on the phone and you can get different covers for it from a well known auction site for £9.99. On the accessories from there isn't much around for it, but I have been told the J5 and J6 are compatable as there is no real difference between them. Sorry for the long review but ther are loads of good points and loads of bad points to this phone.

Final update on my phone.
I got it back about 2 weeks ago and thought I would give it a bit of a test run and
all seems to be fine with it now... according to CRS (repair company for CPWH) when they did a software update on the phone it hadn't gone through right so thats why it was still playing up. So now I am on the lookout for a new phone (should have kept my 7110).... Anyone wanna buy a Sony CMD-J70??? e-mail me :P

Thanks for letting me know you'd re-written. Could do with some paragraphs, and a bit more of an opinion of the features, rather than just a list, but that is better, so thanks!

A little unbalanced, I thought. You didn't say a lot about the features, just the problems. Whilst it's important to know about these, this opinion did come across as a little one-sided. How happy with it were you in the few months before it went haywire?

I keep thinking I don't want my nokia anymore then I read reviews like this and I really feel glad that I kept it!
