Sony Ericsson C510
Advantages: Sturdy, Easy to Use,
Disadvantages: Poor headphone quality
I have had this phone for 2 ½ years and although showing a few signs of wear is still going strong. The feature that I am most impressed about with this phone is the camera. Admittedly you can get phones nowadays with 5mp and HD video but for the money this camera is excellent. So much so that I do not need a separate camera. A few summers ago I took a picture of a butterfly and it captures it beautifully. I have had it printed in a4 and it looks great, no pixilation at all. The camera lens is covered from scratches with a neat slider. My only problem with the camera is the flash. It doesn't really do the job but I never seem to need it as I take most of my pictures outside. The phone is also really easy to use with ok-sized buttons (difficult with gloves though) and a simple menu with clear symbols. Transferring media is easy, just plug it in, don't bother with the confusing software supplied and just drag and drop). After 2 ½ years of outdoor and college usage it is still performing well which speaks volumes for its reliability and build quality. A few of the decals have rubbed off and there are some scratches but it still looks quite smart due to the solid construction.
There are, however, some downsides as always: the supplied handsfree headphones are great while they work with good sound quality but I have gone through at least 3 sets now (I do use them everyday though). They are also not cheap to replace. The only memorycard it takes is an M2 which is different to the much more common micro-sd and a bit more expensive. This is annoying if you already have a micro-sd from an old phone.
In conclusion, I received a new nokia phone 6 months ago as part of my contract but I have given it away as after about 2 months it looked shabby, the battery life was shocking and the buttons are too small. I am much more happy with my Sony. Long may it last.
Summary: Still better than my contract-renewal phone.
