Advantages: Easy to use, looks great
Disadvantages: Small keypad may be a prob for some
My last two mobile 'phones have both been Sony Ericissons: the K800i and K850i. You'll see, therefore, that I've come back for more!
Sony Ericsson have rationalised their naming structures for their 'phones from 2008. Those aimed at music lovers start with a W [for Walkman], while those aimed at camera users now start with a C [for camera, I think you get the picture, if you'll forgive the pun] - these take over from the K series.
The C902 is therefore an upgrade of the K850i, rather than being a new series.
It has all the functions of the previous models, with a few extra tweaks.
Things I like:
* It works well as a 'phone. This may sound like the bleeding obvious, and is something that not all people bother to mention, but it is, after all, a 'phone, and I like being able to make calls on it! The sound is clear, both at my end and for the person on the other end.
* It has quite a clever way to find people's names for a call. You just spell out the name on the keypad [as if using predictive text] and it will find the names in your address book that match. If you have lots of names in your book [and I do!], this is very useful.
* Texting is good, and it allows you send texts to multiple recipients quite easily. Predictive text works well [I know not everyone is a fan], and you can teach it new words e.g. names.
* You can synch the 'phone to your PC [don't think it works with Mac] and so copy all contacts and diary entries from Outlook to the handset. I have about 860 contacts on the laptop, and they all copied across in about five minutes. I usually connect about once a week to keep both up to date [the USB cable will also charge the handset, so I use this rather than Bluetooth, which would also work].
* The 5 megapixel camera is very good for a 'phone, though I will admit that I only really use it for "snaps", as I have a DSLR for "proper" photographs. It has a rather fancy feature in that it can recognize faces, and so will focus on them by preference. Seems to work from what I can see.
* It's easy to change ringtones. I use the ringing tone from "24" [stop smiling!] which was on my laptop from the K800i - when connected the C902 shows up as drive on the PC and so you can copy tones across. You can use this feature to copy photographs to the PC.
* It looks nice.
Things I like less:
* It's certainly a little slower that the previous models, though it's far from sluggish.
* The keypad has shrunk quite a lot. I have quite small hands [and, therefore, fingers!] so it's not a problem for me, but if you have large thumbs and text a lot, you should try it out for size.
[Also on Ciao]

- 15/10/08 So glad you mentioned that it works well as a phone, so many reviews harp on about the fact that the best feature of their phone is the camera or the music player! x |
