Advantages: Compact neat unit
Disadvantages: poor photos, small screen
The c902 is a compact and simple cybershot phone from Sony Ericsson
From first impressions to last orders, this phone never truly stands above the rest. From a looks point of view, the black with sliver stripes makes the phone look nice and sleek. With strips of silver bezzel running around the entire phone it almost takes on the appearance of a humbug mint!
The screen is far too small, with either sides of it being glass for icons to light up in rather than actual screen. This gives the front of the phone a rather squat appearance. Luckily the screen is bright and comes with a reasonable resolution.
The back of the phone on the otherhand looks great, black with one silver strip, no camera or other annoyance in sight, bar the speaker. Thats because the camera is hidden, only to be revealed (or used) when the top of the phone is tugged at. This is a simple process with the mechanism or runners never becoming jammed, where only a small amount of force is required to reveal the camera.
The camera. It's the phones main selling point, and also its biggest let down. Boasting 5 mega pixels you can't be blamed for thinking the pictures will be great. The picture often come out as less than sharp, blurred and especially at night, poorly lit. This is because of less than stellar software (at time of review) and the fact that a tiny device like this had a poor lense, and no proper flash. The resulting pictures are cramped on the small screen and too fuzzy when viewed on a pc. On the plus sie there are many different options from timers to colour adjustors which wouldnt be out of place in a real cybershot.
The interface is a simple one, with a main menu either as a scrolling wheel, or in grip allowing you to acces different function on the phone. To counter the ease of use is the slow speed of the phone whilst doing almost anything other than photos. Texting is anything other than a breeze, with stuttering and freezing, the same as many of the other functions on the phone.
The music software is easy to use and as a sony product sounds pretty damn good aswell. The same can be said with the videos, although the quality is marred by the small screen size and lack of processing power.
The sound of the actual phone is good with little to no crackling heared and almost always manages to find a signal.
Summary: Sony has bitten of more than it can chew with poor design and implementation
