Advantages: Brilliant camera, wi-fi functionality
Disadvantages: Broken earpiece, jammed directional buttons, sticky keys, slooooow!
**Updated - please read new info at the bottom of the review - I have left the original review here so that you can see the progress!**
I ordered the Sony Ericsson C905 after being a loyal Samsung customer for 6 years - the C905 was enough to tempt me away!
Good points: The phone has a lovely quality feel to it, the slightly rubbery backing is comfortable to grip and although the phone is quite weighty, it is not uncomfortably so. The menus are easy to navigate, with maybe not quite so many options as I'm used to having on previous phones but certainly adequate. The camera so far has been fantastic, photos are clear and of brilliant quality as I'd hoped, as I am a huge fan of Sony Cybershot cameras anyway! Even in the dazzling snow yesterday the photographs came out superbly. I also have to give a big thumbs-up to the provision of wi-fi - a fantastic, must-have feature for any phone I think! Voice quality on calls is fantastic also.
Bad points: The keys feel a little 'tough' - you have to press fairly firmly to get them to work. I am also about to return the phone for repair after only 3 weeks of ownership - my current provider only had a 14-day return policy so the phone is going straight to Sony Ericsson, as the 'down' directional button suddenly seized up one day without warning mid-text! The slider is also feeling a little wobbly, and I have asked for this to be looked at.
Overall I am really pleased with the phone - despite the bad points, which I am hoping are just a one-off and I have happened to receive a slightly faulty one! It has definitely been worth making the switch, for the camera and Wi-Fi alone and I would recommend this phone to friends.
**Well a few months after writing this review I am having to eat my words a little, as I can't count how many times over the last few months I have expressed my dislike for this phone!
The initial speaker problem happened again after being fixed, and to be honest I just haven't had the time to package it all up and send it back again. The down button has jammed again, along with my 8/TUV button which I now have to press very, very hard to get it to work.
The whole phone seems to be grinding to a halt - it takes a good couple of minutes to fully load up, and sometimes freezes when accessing menus. The battery life has becoming appalling, I am now charging it daily and I really don't use it that much!!
The problems that I was initially able to look over due to the good features of the phone have now seriously overtaken in my mind. Sadly, I am tied to a 24 month contract with this phone and I can't afford another one right now, so for the time-being I'm stuck with it - but hopefully I can save someone else the trouble by writing this review!**
Summary: Should've stuck with Samsung!
