I had this phone for about a year and a half until I left it on a plane coming back from LA - I was literally gutted! Up until that point I thought the phone was flawless, until I came across two main issues with the phone. The first was the fact sand got under the lens cover and into the charger hole. At first, I was unable to slide the cover as there was so much sand under it, and it wasn't until i forced it back and forth did some sand come loose and to fall out. This isn't a major fault but it was a fault none or less.
The phone in general has a large bright I believe LED screen? I remember it being almost perfect for viewing images you took on it and they really did look great on the phone. The phone as you can see in the picture is a little bulky, I always put it down to being a cybershot phone but I can't help but thinking it was just bulky for no reason, it was great to hold though!
The black and silver looks great. It's a mix between matte and chrome and they really do contrast well together. The silver buttons are easy to use, but yet again the buttons are a little small. They also require some effort to push in, which although I never found to be an issue, some may find it as one.
When I lost my phone I tried to get a replacement but they were no longer made and I couldn't - well at least from Orange, so I really wasn't ready to move on.
This really is a fantastic phone and is able to take great pictures. It also has a built in radio function that I found to be great and it played great music!!
A really great phone and a phone of which I shall miss.
It will stay in the hall of fame of phones for me! (If only i had it still)
This was my second phone and seriously - It served me so well! I used it for at least two years. We paid around £70 for it then but from what I know you can get it for about £50 these days.
The camera is not a rubbish VGA quality - it has a 2 megapixel camera which takes pretty nice pictures. The camera is pretty convenient. Just slide the lens across (that's right it has a lens!!) and you're ready to shoot. It has a zoom feature and flash available for when it's dark. It's a cybershot camera.
A clever manipulation of the flash feature - well because it doesn't flash straight away.. we often turned on the white camera light (My god it's bright!) if we were ever struggling to find something in the dark and didn't have a touch. The camera also has video recording. I found it handy to have these features all on my phone as they were easy to use and I didn't always carry a camera around with me to capture any moments that just cropped up!
By inserting a memory card into the slot, you can store many mp3 tracks on your phone, and listen to them out loud or via the headphones (only sony ones). It also has a radio which I used to tune into local stations.
The storage capacity for the inbox isn't too bad, I personally like to be able to store over 300 messages..because I'm nostalgic like that. haha. I was on pay as you go so I didn't really use the internet much as it wasn't included in my price plan. I did go on facebook quite a lot though which was useful if I wanted to update anything or message my friends.
It has other good features like the calender where I stored my appointments etc, the calculator to add stuff up and the alarms to get me up! The ringtones that come with the phone are quite basic so I'd recommend using your own.
It has a great, robust build. Please don't do this but.. I literally did drop it at least a thousand times (No exaggeration) because I was kind of clumsy or in moments of rage. However, it never really broke.
Once though- the first time I'd got it the screen went blank. It did this a few times so I had to restart it.
Now, the last thing most of my friends had an objection to on this phone was the keys. They're hard to press because they're literally just thin metal lines. I used my nails, and got used to it.
Enjoyyy! Not a bad buy at all :)
I had this phone (in white as you didn't ask) for about 3 years during which it took an almighty beating! Dropping it, often onto my steel toe caps and kicking it across a road or into a puddle and still it worked. Only after being driven over did it finally succumb!
The phone is obviously dated now both in terms of appearance and features but at the time I believe it stood up to much more expensive phones. The menus were intuitive and everything was where you would expect it to be - no options hidden away in ridiculous menus etc.
The features were all free and ready to use - no registering with Google in order to be able to simply use the calendar like my current phone.
The camera is very easy to use, simply open the shutter and it pops up automatically and ready to snap away. The phone also features a bright light/flash which so many phones are lacking. It's 2 mega pixels which is hardly top of the range but the quality was generally crisp so I had no complaints over this.
Transferring files or photos to and from PC is also incredibly easy. Simply plug in the provided USB cable and the phone pops up like an external hard drive or USB stick and so no additional software is needed.
My one complaint would be that to listen to music or the FM radio you have to have special earphones as the fitting is not the standard 3.5mm jack but is the same fitting as the charger.
All in all, a great phone at the time and one that I would have carried on using for much longer.
I had this phone to replace another Sony Ericsson (the k610i) and found this one to be a vast improvement. The basic software and menu layout etc... is the same but there are many fantastic ideas on this handset not included on my previous one, and indeed on many new phones. For example the lens cover for the camera, which is such a simple yet effective design feature.
Being a cybershot phone, the camera is pretty decent, as you would expect. It has the ability to auto focus and a load of adjustments which, when in camera mode appear horizontally so you do not have to tilt the phone when using it as a camera. The picture quality is fairly decent, bearing in mind this is an old phone and was never a particularly expensive model.
The media facilities on this handset are very good, with a large memory card you can easily store a large music collection and the player is fairly easy to navigate through. There is a radio which is great if you ever get bored of your own music.
I was slightly disappointed with video playback. It's ok but not something you'd want to watch for any length of time. It also still has the stupid Sony headphone/charger socket. Whilst this does limit you somewhat with what earphones you can use, it was not as bad as my previous Sony Ericsson, where the socket was mounted on the bottom of the phone.
So, apart from one or two small issues with the socket and video playback, this is a solid little phone. Enough features and very stylish. Highly recommended.
Out of all the phones I've owned in my humble 20 years, this phone stands out as the one that really wowed me. I know it's a mid-range phone and it wasn't intended to compete with the top end monsters of the time but despite this intention, Sony created an amazing device.
The K550i is a standard bar phone with a sleek modern look (modern for the time, it's looking a little dated now). Despite the look, the phone has pretty much all the best features of modern phones. You already know I'm here to big the phone up so I'll start off with the phone's bad points for a change.
1) Buttons. Now the buttons are a little small for some peoples taste, they're pretty thin and close together. If you have sausage fingers you won't be texting at a lightning pace.
2) Screen Size. A little small for a modern phone and really does age the phone. The resolution isn't great by today's standards either, I'll use the term 'blotchy'. The screen does everything it's meant to and IS a good fit for the phone it's just a shock when you're used to a flashier hi-res screen.
3) Camera. Despite being a 'cyber-shot' it's just a cool name which does not reflect on performance. I don't care what name you give it, it's 2MP and it isn't up to scratch anymore. Who really uses a phone camera anyway though?
Ok now onto the good points!
1) Feature Rich. I wish my current phone did everything this phone does. Besides the obvious ones like a phonebook and organizer etc. We have bluetooth remote to control your computer from your phone. Track ID lookup where you record a part of a song you're liking the sound of and the phone tells you what the song is called. Ohh how I miss my bluetooth remote though. The features are modern too, I can send and receive emails from this badboy for example. It's not just a toy is what I'm trying to say.
2) Looks Awesome. The blue backlit keys and black/silver finish make the phone look pretty snazzy.
3) Camera. Ok so for a 2MP camera it's as good as you can get. The camera can do quite a lot in terms of effects, frames, shooting modes etc. The video recording is decent when you flash the camera drivers (advanced users only). It will do a youtuber just fine. The lens cover is pretty snazzy too, check it out.
Ok so an equal number of pros and cons but I can tell you that the cons are all minor points and that the phone is absolutely brilliant. I spent about £50 on the phone back in the day and I'd assume you can get one pretty cheaply nowadays. It was worth the money then and it still is except now more so because it's old school ;)
Looking for a cheap, sturdy, reliable and feature rich phone? You've found it here.
The sony ericsson K550i is a brilliant phone filled with many useful features that makes this phone brilliant.
One of those features is the amazing cyber shot camera which also shoots video. The cyber shot camera has a brilliant picture and has good zoom so if you're looking for a phone with a good camera, this is the one!
That was just one of the features. Depending on what phone package you get, this phone also has brilliant internet visuality.
Being a sony ericsson you expect this phone to have an mp3 player and this phone is no exception boasting a brilliant mp3 file to host all your music.
The feel and look of this phone is very good aswell and the speed of it is exceptional aswell and the phone can only be a bit slow when you are using it alot or you have more than one thing at a time running.
Overall, I think this phone is brilliant and would reccomend it to anyone who's looking for a cheap, stylish phone.
The camera is a 2 megapixel camera that includes an autofocus feature. Instead of a fixed focus camera, with autofocus you can ensure that the subject of your photo is firmly in focus, leading to noticeably sharper images. The is also a good video camera, however, with the picture camera you cannot zoom if you are taking photos in the maximum available quality - which can sometimes get quite annoying.
It also includes an FM radio as well as a music player. The phone has about 64 megabytes internal memory and can support up to 2gb in a memory card. A very useful feature is the TrackID which comes free with the phone, and using it lets you instantly identify any song or music that you hear, although it costs money to connect to the internet and view your results.
The buttons can take a bit of getting used to, however they are well spaced out and so shouldn't take maybe more than a day of usage to get the hang of. However, due to their design, the colour on them can become easily worn and takes away from the attractiveness of the phone. The display isn't bad at 176 x 220 pixels, although it could be better.
This phone does not support 3g or downloadable applications.
As the K550i is a Cyber-Shot phone, the camera is of top importance. However, the camera is not sufficient for proper photography of detailed and intricate subjects, but it is sufficient for the odd picture taken on the go to be uploaded to Facebook or twitter using a PC. The case feels solid enough, although the silver on the raised portion of the dial buttons has worn away to the plastic beneath. It can survive the odd drop, but not much more. The camera lens shutter feels much more solid than most of the phone, which is reassuring. The battery life was acceptable, but I did not use the phone much anyway so my experience may not be applicable. The screen was usable, but not perfect, as was the media playback. As with most 2.5G phones, most browsing was out of the question, but the phone is not designed for that anyway.
this is a cheap and cheerful phone which will keep you going for years. it has a good quality camera (2 megapixel) which seems to punch above its weight, with it being as good as some 3.4 megapixel camera phones. it has a nice, easily accessible interface which can be easily customised through the use of widely available themes. it has an option for external memory which can be easily brought and inserted to improve the amount of songs, pictures etc. the design looks sleek and appealing with it available in black and white, black being the conservative option. its silver detailing contrasts well and gives the phone a unique look. the radio is good with you unfortunately having to use your headphones as an aerial to pick up the signals. there is the inclusion of track id which is where the song names are told to you whilst you listen to them, this was a feature i rarely used, but could be useful to some. the battery life as with all sony ericsson's is good and it will keep working for a week or so on one charge, which is good for someone with a busy lifestyle. the size of the phone is also good with it being thin enough to easily carry around, with a good sized screen at a fairly good quality.
After having loads of mobiles this is probably the best I have had. It is nice and slim and the battery lasts for ages. It looks really stylish and although the buttoms are really small I found it easy to use them. The camera is really good and the pictures print off really nicely from it, I even use the phone camera more than my digital as I find it easier. I use the bluetooth feature a lot to transfer the pictures to my laptop and also to transfer them in the quick print kiosks and it works really easily. It has music capability to add music to and use it as a walkman although I prefer my ipod. Although, I do use the radio on it quite a bit. This version is the one with i-mode which lets me get my imode emails and I often use the wap function when I need to access information on the go. A great little phone that looks good aswell.
I purchased the Sony Ericsson K550i for use as a cheap phone still packed with excellent features as I am a gadget kind of guy.
Firstly the phone is easy to operate with a pretty standard main menu. Contacts were easy to transfer from my old sim and I was up and running in no time.
The camera is a cyber shot which takes quick good quality photos and even short videos. I thought for the money the camera was pretty good quality. The phone has some other features such as an FM Radio, Internet, Music player, bluetooth, calculator, calander, games etc. It good because you can have your favourite tunes as ringtones or unlike my previous phone you can have them as message tones too.
The only problem I find with the phone is that the menus are really slow to navigate around, i'd say when you have little stored on your phone they are quite fast but as your phone wills with messages it gets slower and slower.
Overall I'm happy with the phone but it does get annoying to have to keep deleting messages as the phone gets slow. Although I get this phone at a great price and probably shouldn't expect too much.
Sony Ericsson K550i is a Cyber shot phone, meaning it is designed with pictures as an important feature. In this case, 2-Megapixels camera, in pure pixel terms, slightly behind the times. Mix colors of black and silver casing for the key K550i looks solid. The shape of a tiny dimensions 102 x 46 x 14 mm and 95 grams of weight, K5501 feel comfortable in the clutch. Camera & Multimedia The Camera of 2 Mega Pixel, make the picture result is more bright and added Flashlight. To send Cyber-shot phones to a broader audience, the new phone allows you to make sure that never miss a beat. Sony Ericsson K550 Cyber-shot phone offers the benefits of Cyber-shot phone in a compact (14 mm thin) form factor that places ease of use to his heart. It is one of the best mobiles as it carries many functions with it. Surfing the Internet is comfortable with quadband mobile phone. So, enjoy this great cell phone
Sony Ericsson is a brand i absolutely swear by. I have only ever had one bad phone off this company and it isn't this one. The K550i is a great phone. It comes in Jet Black and is a great size and is has large enough keys to use for texts but can fit snugly into your pocket or handbag. This phone while being qutie simple in appearance does what is asked of it and has great sized keys and a large screen. Other features include a camera - this maybe is not as good as other phones with cameras on the market but is perfect for takinga quick picture. It also has a radio (with headphones) and also has an organiser with settings including alarms and calenders.
This phone used to retail at £100 but prices have dropped signifcantly with new phones being introduced rapidly on the market. This phone ow retails at around £60 and is a great phone for people who only want to use it for practial needs and not for the applications it uses.
I love my sony erricson, its adorable. i got it in Plum drawn to it because i liked its plum colour haha.
After having a nokia 3310 I was just looking for something i could take out and not feel ashamed about having, and wasnt too big.
This phone is small its quite slim its really cute and its easy to use!
Camera-Isnt awful but could always be better, would be good if it took pictures quicker, it has like a five second delay before it takes which always ends with me having a slightly blurred picture from trying to work out if its taken or not.
Games-i was really annoyed that this phone only had one game to offer 'puzzle slider' which was fun until i completed it but even then it refused to tell me that i'd finished when i had, and once i got into the game it took about ten minutes to try and exit it, the only way to exit the game seemed to be by turning off the phone and turning it back on again. The only way i could get more for my phone would be buy going onto the internet via my phone and downloading more which brings me onto the next bit.
Internet-very small and quite fiddly to use. Also ridiculously expensive. when i wanted to download from sony erricson to have something other than the horrible puzzle slider it firstly took forever and also all my credit but then it didnt even work. It told me the download wasnt successful which left me feeling sad, cheated and conned.
texting-so easy. thats all i need to say, the buttons arent too small but they arent too big either and i can just tap away and its awesome. I love the little animations you can put into your texts.
Memory-Awful. I can only hold about ten songs and ten pictures, also it wont let me delete some of the default ringtones which is a bit of a bummer. But i'm going to see if i can buy a new memory card which should solve this problem, although i wish the memory card they gave me was better.
Ringtones-the default ones arent awful but i was immediatly adding my own tunes which i really like. I love that i can use one of my ringtones as my wake up alarm, ive had some funny mornings due to waking up to jump by van halen.
Radio-LOVE IT! and it doesnt take up the battery like at all! its immense and you can set it so you dont have to keep searching for the station it'll do it for you which i love because im always on holiday so its nice just to sit back listening to radio one without having to play with it when i get to weird parts of the motorway.
Organiser-the alarm, the notes, the calender, the reminders. Wow! its amazing. Its so good i can no longer live without my phone because it just reminds me of everything i need to do, i can quickly get down new peoples msn addresses onto my notes and the calender stops me from forgetting peoples birthdays and i always forget birthdays. Wonderful, this is the phones strong point.
themes-i love i can have different themes but ive had to get my friends to bluetooth me them because i hate using my internet on the phone. It angers me.
Bluetooth/infrared-Excellent, i can send to pretty much all my friends because its not just bluetooth its infra red too which is just amazing. So its yay!
and thats all i can think of :)
I WILL DO MY REVIEW WITH A SUBHEADING TO EACH SECTION AND I WILL RATE EACH SECTION DEPENDING ON THE WAY I FEEL TOWARDS THAT SECTION, THANK YOU AND I HOPE YOU ENJOY MY REVIEW.
This phone is not very slow to use, in fact as soon as you click on the phone pad your phone responds very quickly to your commands and does the command almost instantly. In some very rare times your phone may freeze on some occasions for example i.e, I WAS FIDDLING AROUND WITH MY PHONE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY PHONE FROZE AND I COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, I HAD TO RESTART MY PHONE AND WAIT UNTIL I COULD USE IT AGAIN. I must remind you that this was only on 2 rare occasions which i pressed too many buttons.
I will have to rate this a 4/5 because i was disappointed of the fact that it froze but only once in a blue moon.
This phone is very reliable because i have had it for 2yrs now and only on rare occasions it has disappointed me such as when it freezes all of a sudden. On the other when ever you intend to click on a button or activate a command such as the music player or internet, this phone rarely will displease you because i have had it for 2yrs now and it always works when i use it. Also i have dropped this phone countless times on the floor and it still works perfectly fine to this day.
I am going to give this a 5/5 for reliability because it always works when you use it and rarely it will freeze.
The sound interests me because i brought this phone for £140.00 along time ago and to this day it still sounds just as good as the latest phones being made to day.
There is a little up and down arrow on the top right corner of the phone which controls on weather you want to put the volume up or down. the sound can be put quite loud and the quality of the sound is good also you can change the bass, treble, voice and the treble boost all on your equalizer.
I am going to rate this a 5/5 for sound because it has a lot of features for the sound and has a good quality of sound.
Variety of features=
There are many features on this phone and all these features are of good quality and are all up to specific standards of what is requested by us.
The features are blue tooth, in fared, 2.0 mega pixel camera, music player (Walkman), entertainment (games, voice recorder, video player, photos and access to the internet), organizers, calls, web pages and messages.
I am going to rate the variety of features 5/5 because there are so many features which are not even available to the latest of phones.
Variety of features: 5/5
