Advantages: Reliable, easy to use, relatively cheap, great number of options.
Disadvantages: The keys are small, doesnt have as many options as top of the range phones
The Sony Ericsson K550i is a durable and model which provides good value for money for the customer.
Design: The K550i is relatively thin and is a small model at only 46 x 14 mm.The phone fits nicely in your pocket. It doesnt fold up or open up, but this perhaps ensures that the phone has a sturdy frame. The camera is located on the back and opens with a sliding shutter. The phone weighs 85g which is very light so in this respect the K550i is no brick and can be carried around with ease.
However, the buttons on the K550i are not ideal. They are very small buttons and it sometimes is easy to press the wrong button by accident. Thus, when texting it is quite easy to make mistakes and it is a good idea to check that the text is correct before you send it. The buttons are also sometimes unresponsive and it may take a few presses to get them working. The buttons are probably the worst feature of this phone.
Options: The K550i does everything you expect of it, it has WAP internet, radio, bluetooth and plays MP3's etc. It plays music very well, and with the memory card you can store many songs. The phone memory is also substantial with 64 mb of space. The FM radio works well, simply plug the handsfree headset into the phone and you can listen to good quality radio. The internet works as youd expect, and with GPRS you can browse the internet faster.
The games are a little disappointing, my phone on O2 only came with one game, puzzleslider which isnt very fun, but of course more can be downloaded via the internet. The camera is 2 megapixel which is a decent standard for a phone of this price. The photos are clear and worth taking to upload onto your computer. Videos are similarly of decent quality but they do absorb a lot of phone memory space. All of the other features; light, calculator, timer, stopwatch, alarm are all included.
Quality:For phone calls the quality is very clear, i have experienced few difficulties. The design and layout of all sony ericssons is good and this makes it easy to navigate through the menus and get the most out of the phone. The K550i is therefore very easy to operate. I have experienced very few glitches/problems since buying this phone about 10 months ago.
Overall, for the money this phone is of very good quality. It is very dependable and flawless. The only real downside to this phone is the buttons which are sometimes difficult to use. If you want a phone which does almost everything, but for a relatively low price then this phone is for you. It is a solid choice.
Summary: Good quality phone, at a reasonable price

- 28/06/08 With all those options, I wonder how often you need to charge its battery up. |
