Advantages: great user interface, good media player
Disadvantages: slow net
I was lucky, i must say, to have used this phone. Lucky, not because it is the best in the market, not by far. It isn't even the best in it's category, which isn't well-defined anyway. Lucky, because, in some strange way, it was a pleasure to hold it in my hand, and a pleasure to use it.
I didn't own the phone. That honour belonged to one of my friends. But i often used it for gaming. Not that it is a particularly good gaming phone. But it can run some cool games nonetheless. I noticed that it has a "fast engine", whatever that means. My friend's words actually. What i noticed was that i could play some of the high-level games that i couldn't on my SE k608i. So its good to have it by your side, since you can pass away the time in those long bus rides, or on the train home. Or maybe even to escape your wife's chatter for a while.
On second thoughts, if escaping your wife's chatter is what you want to do, then you might want to put on the cool earphones provided with the phone and put on some music. It doesn't have the best sound quality, but its quite good. Sony Ericsson definitely knows what kind of earphones to provide.
And while you are listening to the music, don't worry about the battery running out. I don't know what the official figure is, but i am sure it runs longer than whatever it says in the user manual.
The user interface, as with every SE phone, is very good. in fact you can use the keypad only to navigate through the menu, not even needing the joystick. for example, to go to messages, you go to the main menu and press 5, or 8 if you want to go the organiser. Standard SE stuff. It saves you a lot of time, though.
The camera is pretty good, though you might not want to throw away that digital camera yet. It's useful if you don't need high quality images, but that's not saying the phone camera is not capable of it.
Internet borwsing is pretty boring, unless you live in a country like Japan(those who do will know what i mean). You might want to download opera mini or something similar if you are going to use the net often, which is not recommended on this phone in any case.
And apart from these features, it also has all the standard features you would expect in a high-end java phone, including bluetooth, infrared, flash-light, flash-lite, etc
I will concede that SE has really succeeded if making a great phone was their plan. I would happily trade in my P990(Which is a smart phone, mind you) for this one. After all, if you are going to use a mobile phone, you should have fun doing it. And this phone knows how to entertain you
Summary: great phone for those who can't afford a smart phone, yet will settle for nothing ordinary

- 13/08/08 :) well, i don't own it, but i have used it enough. what does it matter who owns the phone when i have used it for a considerable period of time.

- 13/08/08 You gave us lots of good information and it is nicely written. However, I do think you could have said a whole lot more about how this works as a phone and unfortunately, I personally believe that if you don't own it, you really shouldn't be reviewing it. That's why I had to rate it as I did. But you're on the right track with this review. |
