Advantages: clear screen, good features, feels and looks good
Disadvantages: Camera not as good as expected
The first thing I noticed when I first lifted the K750i from its box was the small size and yet sturdy structure. It feels good to hold as it is heavy enough without being TOO heavy if that makes sense. I don’t want to feel I am holding a brick, but by the same token, I don’t want something too fragile either.
The screen is gorgeous with its 262 colour screen and navigation through the menus is easy using the joypad. One of the things I like about Sony Ericsson phones is that smileys in text messages come out as ‘real’ smileys as in msn messenger etc. and they are very easy to create with just three presses of the number 1 key (okay, so maybe that’s a girlie thing!) Messages, both picture and text are easy to create and send and I had no problem receiving longer messages in one piece instead of separate sections over several minutes as some phones seem to do.
I was anxious to try the camera as it had been given so much hype and found it to be very good although I have to say that I wasn’t as bowled over as I hoped to be. I was very impressed with the camera on the S700i and this didn’t seem any better to me, but that could be down to the small size of the screen compared to the large one on the S700i. I do like the fact that the camera lens can be closed, another pretty standard features on Sony Ericsson phones that makes such a difference.
GPRS and MMS settings were received easily by sms from the Sony Ericsson website and wap worked well. However, I was a little disappointed that I didn’t get the full colour orange homepage – just the names of the services offered, although maybe I missed the point here and this was down to an error by myself.
Although I don’t often use a radio on a phone I have to say that this is the best one I have heard. It was very clear and being RDS it told me the name of the channel which was useful as I didn’t have to wait around for the DJ to tell me as is usually the case!
Bluetooth seemed to work well and there was no problem at all with my Nokia 6630 finding this one. I did like the fact that I could link this directly to my computer with the supplied cable, a very useful and cost effective feature not included with most phones.
I also feel that this phone would be suitable for male and female alike – so many phones are either too girly for a ‘real man’ or too bulky for a girl’s handbag, but this one turns heads of either sex and does everything you can expect from a phone really.
Summary: I love the look and feel of the phone and the screen is amazing but camera was disappointing
