Sony Ericsson K770i
Advantages: Long battery life, copy and paste text, great for gaming, read and rate reviews on Ciao and Dooyoo,
Disadvantages: low vibration, does not have all the new mobile features out there.
Believe it or not I have just recently bought a new Sony Ericsson K770i (well my cousin paid for it). This is because my Sony ericsson K750i which was my main phone out of the two that I use, is now not working properly as I the person calling me can't hear me properly unless I use my hand free kit. It hasn't been working for months so I got fed up.
As you all know, I am a fan of Sony ericssons nowadays as they are stylish and up to-date with the latest specs on mobiles. I bought my Sony ericsson K770i from my local 3 store for £99. It came in a small box including the USB cable, PC software, Simcard, Manual and charger. The mobile phone was really slim (possibly one of the slimmest mobiles I have seen) and weighs only 95g.
Setting up the mobile was pretty easy, I had to open the back of the phone to insert my simcard and battery. Opening the cover was not hard at all, all I had to do was slide a button on top of the mobile and pull the back cover backwards whilst holding the button.
This mobile has an amazing 3.2MP camera which allows you take high quality 3.2MP pictures or video. This even makes the video calling more enjoyable as you can see the person calling you clearly, and they can see you clearer. The 3.2MP is not exactly the big miracle on this mobile, as nowadays you get mobiles with 5.0MP cameras installed onto them, with better zoom.
You can always use the USB cable to transfer the pictures onto a PC for printing. You don't have to install the provided software to transfer data from and to the mobile as the PC recognises the mobile as a USB mass storage. You can always use the provided software to edit pictures before printing, but I have not bothered to use, as my pictures looks perfectly fine after capturing.
You can also use the USB connection for synchronising data to and from your PC. The USB connection is not the only connection for transferring data. You can also use Bluetooth which transfers files not only to and from your PC but to other mobiles and devices that have Bluetooth installed onto it. Bluetooth is 100% free to use, so saves you money on MMS (picture or video messaging). The Bluetooth on the Sony ericsson K770i also allows you to play music wirelessly to your headset. The sony ericsson does not however have infrared which is another wireless connection that some devises use.
The mobile phone has a 16MB internal memory, which is pretty disappointing. As one of the new Sony Ericsson models, I expected the Sony ericsson K770i to have at least 64MB of internal memory. Therefore, you can't save a lot of high resolution pictures and if you want to save song it will only take four MP3 songs which is not good enough for me. I therefore had to buy a 1GB M2 card as it was not provided in my package. On that note, when you buy the memory card make sure it is an M2 card not a micro SD as they look a little bit the same, so you might buy the wrong. The Sony Ericsson K770i only takes M2 card and can support up to 2GB, though I am sure that it will work even if you use a 4GB M2 memory card.
The sony ericsson K770i is really good for music, as it plays the Mp3 music and radio very loud when comparing to the other mobiles that I have owned,.
The battery Life of the sony ericsson K770i is rather impressive. I am the sort of person who spends hours on my phone texting and browsing the net but the battery power lasts the whole and I only have to charge my mobile in the evening when going to sleep. The battery takes less than two hours to fully charge. The mobile phone also has an LED on the top left corner which lights up red if the battery is very low.
You can use the mobile as a modem, suggesting that you can connect to the internet on your laptop or PC using your mobile having support of the USB cable. However, for this to work, you may need to subscribe to the mobile internet with your network provider. I have tried connecting to the internet using the 3 netowrk sim card that originally came with the mobile, and I must say I was impressed as it actually worked. The internet was however not as fast as my home broadband, but I was still able to browse, read my emails etc.
You can also browse the internet on the mobile. I must say browsing the internet on the Sony ericsson K770i is way better when comparing to the Sony ericsson K750i. This is because, the picture quality is better and the Sony Ericsson has 3G suggesting that it loads the pages faster. It also has video streaming, which means that if you are downloading a film trailer on a website, you don't have to wait for the mobile to download the whole trailer before you can watch it, it downloads as you watch, which saves lots of time.
If you think the screen is not viewing the way you want, you can change it to either portrait view or landscape.
I really love browsing the internet with the Sony ericsson K770i, it even allows me to comment on reviews on ciao and dooyoo, which makes life a little bit easier as I don't have to put the effort in sitting on a chair and log onto my laptop, I can read all the new reviews lying on my bed or at lunch. The mobile is also good for msn, face book and other social networks as it does not just allow you to browse profiles and send emails or instant messages but it allows you to upload pictures straight from your mobile and on msn it allows you to set a personal message which I couldn't access when using my Sony ericsson K750i.
Like many other mobiles. The sony ericsson K770i has an organiser. This is the area of the mobile were you can access the alarm. I actually like the alarm feature whereby you can set more than five different types of alarms at the same time e.g an alarm to wake up, medication, meetings, make a call etc. This is rather helpful as I don't have to set an alarm after a few hours. The wake up alarm can also be set to ring everyday at the time set, which saves you time in having to set the alarm everyday. You can also chose your own ringtone for the alarm or use the ringtone provided.
I the organiser you can also access the calendar, notes, phonebook, timer, stopwatch, contacts, tasks and the flight mode. The flight mode is one of the new features out in the orld of technology. It basically allows you to switch off radio and transmitters in your mobile so that you can use the mobile on the plane e.g. play games, listen to MP3 music, watch videos etc.
The mobile is also good for games as you can download 3D games and other various java games. Mine came with games such as 'who wants to be a millionaire, photo quest etc'. I recently downloaded call of duty 4 onto the mobile, and the gaming experience is exceptional.
The big screen on this mobile makes the games more enjoyable.
I would recommend this mobile who wants a mobile which is up to date with some of the latest technology such as flight mode, video streaming, mobile modem etc. The navigation around the mobile is very easy as everything is clearly labelled and the mobile does not have a joystick which can break easily for those who play games a lot. The mobile has an easy four way navigation key with a press function., you can also use the navigation key for shortcuts, you can't however change the 'up' navigator as its been allocated for your picture album.
The changeable cover is really helpful to those who like their phone colour to match their clothes or to those who are clumsy and drop their mobiles often. The fascia for the sony ericsson K770i is not that expensive as you can buy it for as little as £4 on the market. However, the cheap fascia tend to be the fake ones as they don't have the sony ericsson Logo on them. The fascias with the Logo are rather expensive as they cost around £15 including the key pad.
You can change the settings of the mobile to make it personal. The security is definitely the place to visit as you can set a pin code for your mobile and sim card. This basically means that if your mobile is switched off and is turned on, it will ask for a pin code to enable you to access the mobile phone features. You can change the mobile themes and even upload some of your own, or you can always use your own pictures to make it more personal. You can use your favourite music as the ringtone or message alert tone. If you don't like any music published you can always record yourself singing and set the recording as the ringtone or message alert tone.
Talking about message, not only can you send the recorded voice, SMS, MMS etc. The sony ericsson also has the predictive text input, which predicts what you are going to say next although it's not always 100% correct it can be useful to some people (I don't find it useful when texting).
A miracle on this mobile is the copy and paste function. Which most of you already know about if you use a PC or laptop regularly. The copy and paste feature allows you to copy and paste text, this is mostly usefuly when on instant messenger and you want to tell a few people the same thing e.g. you are about to log off and you want to say goodbye to everyone you was chatting to, you can easily copy and paste it to everyone which saves you time in typing out the same thing. I totally love this feature.
The only thing I dislike about this mobile is the vibration. The vibration of the sony ericsson K770i is not as strong as the other mobiles I have owned. If you buy this mobile on 3 network and you unlock the mobile there are certain shortcuts you can't delete or change such as planet 3. Another thing I've noticed is that if you turn off the dictionary helper and you change your simcard and try to text or type out anything the dictionary will turn on again. This annoys me as I'm the sort of person who does not like using the dictionary when texting or on instant messenger. The sony ericsson K770i does not have all the new mobile features out there today like the 5.OMP camera, GPS, touch screen, more internal memory like the Nokia N95 8GB etc.
All these disadvantages do not put me off the phone though. For more information about this mobile, you can always visit the Sony ericsson website.
Summary: A slim mobile phone, which has a lot of features and looks great.
