Advantages: Camera, ease of use
Disadvantages: Sliding lens cover, PC software
Over the last 3 years I have had 2 of these phones. I gave my first one away to a good home and inherited my girlfriends one soon after.
I have always been impressed with the usability of this phone, normally I am a big Nokia fan but I soon changed after using this phone for a while. Yes I could get a free upgrade to something more swish but the beauty of this phone for me is the camera. Since joining Facebook I find myself taking more photos than I used to and there's nothing worse that having to carry your clunky digital camera around with you when you go out.
The k800i is perfect for my needs. The 3mb camera is really easy to use and has countless setting so I can fine tune if needs be. The flash is also very handy. Why you would need more pixels than this is beyond me (unless you're a budding David Bailey). I don't use the video on it very much but it is reasonable quality.
It comes with some neat apps like FaceWarp which is always good for a laugh. The battery life is good on it but as with most phones nowadays if you use Bluetooth it will kill it.
There are a couple of things I don't like about it:
1) There is a cover over the lens which is designed to protect it. Almost every time I take it out of my pocket I find that the slider has moved and is exposing the lens. I often carry coins/keys in the same pocket hence it is likely to scratch.
2) The Sony Ericsson PC Suite is a disastrous piece of software. It normally takes up to 10 attempts to get it to recognise that you have plugged your phone in. I am not alone in having this problem. There is however still the ability to simply view the phone in windows explorer if you just need to copy pictures from it.
I am hoping that the proposed change to standardise all phone chargers will happen soon as I am gathering quite a collection!
All in all a very solid phone that still puts some of the modern ones to shame

- 25/02/09 I realize the camera is your main thing, but it is a phone, and I really think you should have mentioned more about how it works as one. |
