Advantages: Design & Fun to use

Disadvantages: It's...not high end

What a popular little gem this turned out to be! I knew instantly, this handset would win many hearts. And so it did!

What fascinates me about this phone, above all eles, is the design and colour style of it. It's just a little gem, like I said, it's beautiful. The shiny plastic looking cover is elegant, and the green dials and metallic looking pad is just delicious. I preferred this black/green to the yellow version.

S in Sony Ericsson stands for slide of course, and yes, S500i is a perfect little slider, aimed at customers seeking at low-mid range handset. Nowadays, low-mid range handset don't really mean much, except that it's affordable - since phone market has devloped so quickly and vastly over the years, even a low budget phone will have a heap of features available to the user.

Before I go on, S500i has a twin, that is the Walkman version W580i, which is identical in every way, except: the navigation layout, colours, walkman logo, and walkman player 2.0. Nothing else is different.

S500i has many good sides, and as a mid-range phone does, bad sides too. Good sides I found were, the design and slim form factor, lovable colour combination, brilliant screen (though a little small at 2inches), fancy wallpaper/animations (it's so fun), lighting, average camera and that its quadband. Basically, this phone screams 'fun'.

Bad sides. Right. The first being the 2MP camera, (as I'm very keen on them), no autofocus. An average camera. Hardly no on board memory - a memory card is a must. No radio either. Small screen (but some may say enough). It does have bluetooth connectivity, but no IR, nor Wi-fi and not 3G (but no one really expects those in a mid-range phone).

So the conclusion is - the phone does appeal, immensely. But is that enough? For some that is enough, and with the matching reasonable pricing, this may be the phone for you.

Summary: It's fun but not very clever
