Advantages: Stylish,Small,Good quality camera,Music
Disadvantages: Crashing and camera comes on for no reason
From the moment you see this phone in the box you know its going to be good, even the box looks sexy. This phone is a very very good phone there is no mistaking that. The looks,The feature,The sound,Its all there.Even when you listen to your music all day the battery is still in good shape at the end of the day.
Now I will start to be more detailed about the features and the good and bad points about this phone. The first is going to be the styling of the phone. At first the phone looks a little bit girly I must admit, but as time goes by the phone looks more like a style icon rather than a womans play thing(nothing naughty intended). Its slick lines and white/orange casing stick out from the grey and black or the world. It is well put together and is a very nice phone to use.
The camera is a very good 2 mega pixel camera and takes some very good picture but is quite slow and you could miss what you was hoping to get a picture of if you are not quick enough. The video recording is in 3gp so that means a bit blocky and hard to see sometimes but the videoDJ makes this feature quite cool.
The menu is very easy to navigate and its very easy to get used to,even your gran could work this phone without blowing it up.Texting is also easy to use on this phone, infact its the easiest texting i have used on any phone.
The walkman is very good and the earphones you get with the phone are a treat for the ears and give crystal clear sound with tons of bass and no distorting. Its easy to transfer files onto the phone (DONT USE THE SOFTWARE AS ITS RUBBISH) and once they are on the phone its easy to make your playlists and the free 512mb memory stick duo helps you build a nis collection up.
I think its time to point out the MAJOR faults with this phone that let this phone down SOOOOOOO much.First one is the firmware on the phone is rubbish, updating it doesnt help.I had 2 white screens of death with my phone and so many crashes I lost count. It crashes whenever it wants to,When your on the phone,Txting, playing games or simply locking the keypad. The firmware will drive you MAD.
The second was the camera,I know i said it was good,it is when its not messing up.The lens cover will open more or less everytime you take it out your pocket.Im not sure if my other problem was to do with the firmware but it drove me MENTAL.The camera would come on at anytime it wanted even when the lens cover was not open.If i tried to lock the keys it would take me around 5 atempts as i would have to keep exiting the camera after it kept coming on.Same when i got a txt or getting a phone call.Unlocking my keys was also a pain because of this problem.
For these reasons I would not recommend this phone to anyone as it is riddled with faults and they do actually overpower the good points.
Go for the w810i as firmware has been sorted or if you want more from your monile go for the k800i.Please read my review on the k800i.

- 12/08/06 I also own the W800i and can totally relate to how bloody annoying it can be! I also get white screens, resetting and crashing frequently... and you'd expect so much more from Sony Ericsson.
On top of that, I have had my handset through and Orange contract that ends at the end of September - and I can't wait as Orange just don't care about how bug-ridden this phone is! I've had about 5 handsets from them already and they simply wouldn't let me change it for another phone altogether - even a more expensive one.
I agree that when the phone works fine it is generally great. The MP3 player works very well and has rendered my portable minidisc player inemployed for the time-being. I agree that the software is really awful... Any suggestions as alternatives to use?
Glad (and sorry) to see that I'm not the only person to think this phone is far from what it could be... but at least I know I'm in good company.
Take care,
Derek. |
