Advantages: Has a very easy to use music player and does everything you could want it to

Disadvantages: As it is an old phone there are better ones out now + has an annoyingly loose batery cover

Around 2 years ago I decided it was time for a new phone. After using the Nokia 6230 for over a year I blew the speaker, and seeing as music is the most important thing for me in a phone ( I know, priorities wrong) I set about scanning the world(wide web :P) for something new to fill the large empty feeling I had inside due to lack of a good music player.

- - Looks - -

When I found the Sony Ericsson W800i It was love at first sight. The main body is pearly white and is highlighted with a metalic orange on the sides and on some of the buttons. Alot of people say they don't like this but I think it looks great. It has rounded corners (health and safety aware :P) and for the time, a very large screen.

- - Features - -

When I buy phones I am generally looking for something that is alot more then something that can simply call people, I am looking for something that can play music, take pictures, play games and ofcourse occasionally be able to make a phone call.
The W800i can do all of these and lots more, here are some of the great features it offers:

- - Camera - -

The 2 megapixel camera that comes with this phone used to be the best in the market. Now sadly its been overtaken by new 5 megapixel phones, but 2 megapixels is all you need unless your a proffesional photographer in which case you wouldn't use a phone camera anyway.

There are some well placed buttons on the side of the phone that mean you feel alot happier taking pictures as its more like the way you would normally hold a camera and you just click and shoot with the big button :) couldnt be simpler! there are also buttons to zoom in and out without having to move your hands.

On the back of the phone, the camera has a lens cover that you can slide on and off which protects the lens, unlike many of the newer models, and if your anything like me you will find yourself sliding it backwards and forwards thousands of times. (really smooth :)

- - Walkman (music player) - -

This is the reason I bought this phone and is also the reason why I love it! After using the walkman in the W800i it made me wonder how i'd ever lived without it. There is just simply no easier way to play music and flick through tracks even in MP3 players (exept maybe iPods). There is a dedicated button to get to the music player which will instantly take you to your favourite tracks no-matter what you were doing previously. Then using the handy joystick you can flick through all of your tracks effortlessly, you can even choose to look through: Tracks, artists, playlists, or videos - just to make looking through the media on your phone even easier!

Volume can be easily turned up or down from 2 handily placed side buttons which can also double up as a quick way to change the track if, like me, your too lazy to get your phone out of your pocket to look at it.

The memory on this phone is also amazing! (as far as i know) All W800i's come with a 512MB miniscule memory stick, which easily slides in and out of a side slot. This can be upgraded to atleast 2GB for reletivly little money (around £10) and even with the provided space, which I still use, you can store over 120 songs + videos and pictures!

The software they provide with the phone means you can easily take music from the phone to your computer or from your computer to your phone, aswel as pictures and videos.

- - Other features - -
This phone comes with a whole host of other fun and practical features.

There is a whole section of the phone devoted to being a personal organiser which includes a calculator, world clocks, note maker, stopwatch/timer, LIGHT(very useful+very battery draining), alarms(where you can use any of your music tracks to wake you up) and a Calendar which is very usefull and very easy to setup new apointments and activities that you may have which then become highlighted when you look through the dates.

This phone can also be a very handy portable radio with the help of the sony ericsson in-ear headphones which are supplied with the phone which act as an antenna. These headphones also happen to be the greatest headphones I have ever witnessed (Amazing bass!) which is great when they are free :)

There is a whole lot more you can do such as create your own music tracks, edit your videos, edit your pictures and record sound, oh and also play games :)

Overall this phone has everything that anyone could ever want in a phone, even if your like me and wanting alot! this delivers. It may be an old phone but i hav'nt felt any need to upgrade my phone and I doubt i will do anytime soon.

oh and as to things such as battery times... I found the battery to begin with great (you can use the walkman with headphones for over 15hrs!) and it is very quick to charge, but due to me overcharging it and taking the battery out alot when the phone is still on, it doesnt last very long, but thats my fault, battery should be nothing to worry about normally and they are only £5 to buy new.

Summary: Very good compact phone with no silly design features, does everything you could want it too!

Lots of good information here and nicely written, but what about making and receiving calls - how is the sound quality for that? How easy is it to navigate the menus? Any problems with texting? What about the phone book? Just a touch about these things (which I call how the phone works as a phone) and this will be a really useful review.
