Advantages: basic phone spec.
Disadvantages: Problems, with the charger, the walkman, and it switching off!
Thinking about writing this review, I've just realised that almost all of my reviews have been positive so far. I don't tend to have problems with any products, I write quite a lot of travel reviews of places I've enjoyed, and some book reviews too, of books I've enjoyed. Unfortunately, however, I have not had a good experience with this phone, so the run of positive reviews is about to take a break!
I've had this phone for a couple of years. When I bought it, they had been out for a while. One of my friends had it and liked it and I was looking for a new phone so I thought I'd buy this one. I also chose it because I like the Sony brand and I thought that this would be a good quality phone.
I can't remember how much they were to buy for PAYG, because I had mine with a contract, and it was free. I think that the contract was quite expensive though, about forty pounds a month, although I did have a lot of minutes for that.
Initially I was happy with the phone. It is not the smallest phone but it's not heavy and not really bulky. The buttons are asy to use. There is a menu feature and you press select and scroll around with the arrow keys until you find what you're looking for. It comes with a walkman, which I used quite a lot.
As time went on, however, it began to fall out of favour with me. First of all, one day the charger just stopped working. This of course left me with an uncharged phone. One of my friends had recently got rid of his phone because he continually had problems with chargers. Perhaps he was unlucky, and so was I, or maybe there was some sort of fault. Anyway, I had to pay for a new charger because I could not prove that I had not damaged it.
Next, I found that sometimes when the phone was in my handbag, the walkman would start playing. This was quite annoying because if I was at work then it would be quite embarrasing so have music suddenly blaring out from your bag! This happens even when the phone is on silent, and even with the keypad locked. The reason is because there is a play button on the side of the phone, which I must have caught repeatedly by accident. Annoyling, I haven't found a way around this!
Finally, the phone sometimes decides to trun itself off. This really is annoying, espeically if you are making a phone call at the time. In fairness, it usually switches off when I'm not using it, but I have been speaking to someone and had it swicth itself off. I don't know why it does this and I haven't been able to find a way to stop it.
Are there any positives with this phone? Well yes, generally it does work, and can be used to send text messages and make calls. However, that's the minimum spec for a phone these days. It does have a calendar and an alarm.
Overall, steer clear of this one!

- 16/01/09 I've got the W910i... it has the same habit of switching itself off when it feels like it! |
