Advantages: Great sound, user friendly, great features
Disadvantages: A few years old???
As with a lot of electronic goods, I get my mobile phones as hand me downs from my son when he 'upgrades' to newer models available on his contract. I'm a strictly ay-as-I go so of a gal, so my review is based on using the Sony Ericsson W810i as an O2 pay as you go customer.
Let's be honest, everyone now-a-days bases the quality of a phone on the features it has. I mean camera, mp3 player, gps functions etc. All phones signal levels are determined by the strength of the network in your area. Every phone has a call list, you can text from them (the w810i has a very straight forward texting layout which has predictive text if desired and is very user friendly), they have voice mail. These are all givens. The w810i has nicely sized buttons so keying in numbers or text isn't too fiddily, plus it's battery life lasts for a number of days easily (assuming a fair to low usage rate).
So to the real stuff people are interested in -
It comes fully equipped with a 2 megapixel camera than take much sharper pics than my old phone (which was also 2 megapixels), and works in various modes. There is also a picture editing function.
It has a video recorder and player, again the quality is very good for a mobile phone.
It has a first class mp3 player, as you'd expect as this is a Sony Walkman phone. It's basically a proper mp3 player in a phone. Songs are grouped by either artist, album or genre, plus you can create any number of playlists and save them on your phone. The built in speaker works excellently and sounds clear even at top volume (which is fairly loud). As the phone's internal memory is only 20mb you will need to make sure a memory card is included in your package or purchase one separately.
The w810i comes with built in fm radio (which only works when the supplied headphones are connected to the phone). Sound clarity and reception is excellent.
It has a calendar and organiser for you to insert all your important appointments and birthdays, plus you can also set reminders on it. Easy to set, no matter your age!
It has multiple alarms that you can set (and be woken by either a song from your mp3 player, or the radio, or just an alarm tone).
It even has a light, which you might not think is useful, but it really is (it's very bright).
I obviously got mine for free, but you can pick one up from Amazon for around £130. I'm sure you could get a good deal on a second hand one though.
I really can not say enough good things about this phone, and since owning a phone these days is about so much more than just for making phone calls with, the W810i is a brilliant all rounder.
Summary: Excellent all rounder phone
