The Sony Ericsson W850i is a great phone. I had one, on contract with Vodafone, for 2 years. Because it was an upgrade to my previous phone, it only cost me 20 quid, so not a good measure for price here I'm afraid.

In terms of the phone itself, it is a solid device, it took two good years of use and is still in immaculate condition, so much so, my wife is going to take it as a replacement for her Motorola phone. I don't recall ever having to reset the phone once in my time with it, and batter life was excellent.

A little bit thicker then most 'candy bar' style phones, mainly due to the slider nature of this device. It slides upwards easily, with just the right amount of resistance, to reveal the keypad. I must have opened and closed that phone a hundred thousand times and it's still got the same feel to it.

The camera was what I would term good quality in its day, but perhaps only reasonable quality now, given the spec of current phones. That said it was sufficient for what I would expect a phone's camera to be. You can take pictures with the phone in open position or closed, using a dedicated camera button. One small gripe I would have here is that the lens is recessed slightly, I assume for protection, which makes it hard to clean the dust from it.

Because it's one of Sony Ericsson's 'W' series phones, it's a Walkman too, so it plays music. The orange button on the front gives you access to the Walkman features. My second and final gripe about this phone; it would occasionally start playing music in my pocket, I assume due to a combination of this orange button and a nudge talking it out of locked mode.

For storage, there is a MemoryStick Pro Duo (that's the half-size MemoryStick) slot at the top of the phone, hidden behind a little flap. I had a 1Gb card that came mine, more than enough for all my mobile tunes and photos.

Solid reliable phone, if a little chunky.
