The most unusual phone I have owned

Sony Ericsson W880i
Advantages: Great music features
Disadvantages: love or hate design
I have to admit that I am mad for mobile phones. I seem to go through more mobile phones than most people have hot dinners.
I bought the Sonyt Ericsson w880i not long after it was first launched. I was already in contract but had dropped and damaged my k800i. The first thing that I need to say about this phone is that when I bought it, it cost a fortune. I think I paid nearly £200 for mine. Even at that price, I really think that it was worth it. What infuriated me about the mobile phone market is that this phone is now so cheap. Now this is a great thing for people looking to pick up a budget phone, but not so good for the trailblazers who bought it when it first launched. I am convinced that mobile phone retailers should offer some form of cash back for these occassions.
So, what do I think about this phone?
The most unusual thing about this phone is its look. To say that it is individual is un understatement. This phone looks downright weird. In terms of how it looks, it is an aquired taste for sure, but I like it. I especially like the two tone black and orange model as shown in the pictures here. You can also get a silver model but I think that looks a little cheap and nasty in comparisson.
The buttons are tiny. Whilst this looks very good I was concerned that it may be a case of style over content. Its not. The buttons may be small and different to most mobile phones, which means it does take a little while to get used to, but after this brief period I found it to be very comfortable to use.
The phone is also exceptionally thin. To me this is neither a good or a bad thing. I know that some people seem to think that the thinner the better, but I do not always agree. All I know is that on this phone, thin is good!
As a W series phone, this phone is geared up for music fans. The walkman plays a big part in this phone. This leads to some great features as well as some unusual features.
The best feature to come out of this design is the external music controls. This toggle on the upper left side of the phone allows you to skip tracks as well as adjust the volume. Simple but effective.
Also you can use which ever headphones you want to, using the adaptor. The reason for the adaptor is that it turns your everyday headphones into a hands free kit so you can answer the phone without unplugging your headphones. Another simple but effective innovation.
The internal memory of the phone is not particularly large, but there is a slot for a memory card. Frustratingly, this phone takes the SD Micro SD M2 memory card, which means that if you are upgrading from any other make of phone, then chances are your memory card will not be compatable. The phone can take up to a 4Gb memory card, thus giving you a massive memory space. I actually use two memory cards, so that I can keep my lectures (which I keep on mp3 for listening to on the bus) seperate from my music.
The mp3 player is very good on this phone, although the volume could have been louder. But isnt this always the case? I would say that its probably a very good thing that the volume is restricted, however I would have preferred a louder sound.
The phone has internet capabilities, but the screen size makes this frustrating to use.
This might be a silly point to make, but the position of the sim card in the phone makes it very difficult to remove. I found that I needed to use tweezers to get the sim card out. This is certainly not convenient, but should not affect most users.
As I said, this phone has some unusual features too. Like the chromatic tuner. I found this very handy for tuning my guitar. You can set the tuner to produce pitch perfect notes so that you can tune an instrument. There is also a built in metronome for musicians working on their timing. The best feature in this vein however is the chord book built in to the phone. It has a diagram of all the standard chords for the guitar so that you can learn new chords for songs that you are looking to learn. Its unusual, but I like it!
To sum up, I think this is probably one of the most unusual phones I have owned, both in terms of its features and its looks. This will probably cause people to either love it or hate it. I love it. Even though I lost this phone and have since had to replace it, I still think that its an amazing device. The features on this phone were so unusual yet suited me so well you would have thought that it was a bespoke design!
