Advantages: great looks, great music player, FM radio, motion sensor

Disadvantages: terrible software, completely unreliable

My second Sony Ericsson phone, but probably my last. This phone is a beautiful phone to look at but it is incredibly unreliable. After the W810i I had previously, which had a couple of problems with its software, I was expecting this to be of the same mould.

Like the w810i, I purchased this phone mainly because I didn't have a stand alone MP3 player. The media player on the Sony Ericsson w910i is incredible. The media player sports the new design, with an intuitive cross menu, allowing you to easily scroll through your videos, music and photos.

The phone and the media player also provide a couple of cool features. The first is the SenseMe feature. This allows you to assign songs to different categories such as "chilled" and "tempo" from your PC so that different songs can be played dependant on your mood. The second and best feature, albeit a little gimmicky, is the motion sensor built into the phone. This, in practice, means you can change tracks forwards and backwards by flicking your wrist in that motion with phone in hand. You can also shuffle songs by shaking the phone vigorously. The motion sensor also allows for horizontal video viewing, with the orientation of the video changing dependant on the angle of the phone. The phone also includes an FM Radio

The phone's internal memory is poor, but again there is room for expansion using a Sony M2 Memory Card, which is not compatible with other types of handsets. Luckily the phone comes with a 1gb card as standard.

The camera however is not incredible. The camera is only a small 2 megapixels, with an light that mimicks a flash. There is also a camera on the front for video calling.
Another general problem with all Sony Ericcson phones is that Sony insist on the phones being completely incompatible with all other phones. The charger and headphone slots are all specific to Sony phones and can be a pain to get an improved set of headphones, of that is what you want. Also the Sony memory cards means that you can't just slot the card into another device.

However for all its aesthetic appeal and music playing capabilities, the Sony Ericsson software is again incredible unreliable. I had numerous problems with the phone turning itself off randomly and, most irritating, after a while sliding the phone up and down would prompt it to turn off. Following that, the messaging system crashed and I could not send or receive or messages anymore. That's where I ran out of patience with the phone and changed back to my old W810i.

One thing I can say is that Sony are likely to have upgraded the software since the phone has been out and will have likely eliminated alot of the problems.

Summary: A great phone let down by unreliable software
