Advantages: Large screen, good looks, large storage capacity
Disadvantages: Messaging can be tedious, unusable if touchscreen stops working
I got my Sony Ericsson W960i back in January 2008, and for about 6 months I didn't have any major issues.
The phone is fairly attractive which large buttons and a large display (two of my favourite features). It has an 8 gig hard drive, but unfortunately does not have a card slot to expand this, however 8 gig should be enough for an average person, I had around 100 albums stored on it with plenty of space left over at one point.
The price of these handsets has lowered quite a lot over the past year, you can find one on ebay for around £100.
The Walkman software worked fine, it's fairly clear and easy to use. My only issue was when adding songs to the library, it would occasionally multiple copies of tracks to the playlist which meant I had to completely re-scan the phone for music.
Text messaging can be frustrating, especially when trying to view sent/drafts etc as the arrow you have to press to get to each folder is incredibly small, you find yourself constantly viewing received messages and having to press the back button to try again. When entering new words into the dictionary an error will flash up, when you press continue you are kicked out of messaging and lose anything you have written.
Here is a short description of a few bigger issues I have had with the W960i:
Within days of owning the W960i the screen was scratched (even after taken extremely good care), which didn't really bother me as the touch screen still seemed to function correctly. I would recommend using the included phone cover. Back in January this year, one year after getting the phone, the touch screen would not work when touched in the bottom left hand corner, this was VERY annoying. The scroll wheel on the side packed in shortly after this followed by the number 1 key. I am always very careful with my phones, I've never knocked or dropped it, so this to me was unexceptable. Shortly after this the entire screen ceased to work, which meant that now the phone was completely unusable even with all of the ingenious techniques I had developed to access certain parts of the phone! Luckily for me the phone was still under warranty so I had it sent away and a few weeks later it came back good as new! Now a few months on the screen is starting to play up again :S
In summary, I have stuck with my W960i through all of the annoyances due to being tied into a contract until July, If you are looking for a Walkman phone with plenty of storage space then it might be worth considering, otherwise I'd recommend staying away.
Summary: Average phone, with some good and very bad points
