Advantages: Great features, great memory, very stylish

Disadvantages: Camera is only 3 mega pixel

After finally receiving this phone after I sent my unimpressed Samsung u900 back, I have to say this by a long shot is the best phone I have ever had.

Now I have been with Samsung for years and always stayed loyal to them getting the newer model each time my contract was up but after several problems over the past 8 months and after trying out the u900 and not liking it at all, I decided now was the time to make the jump.

Anyway on to the phone itself. Now looking at pictures of the phone doesn't do it any justice at all. Trust me you have to see it to really appreciate it.

The screen size is a perfect size and although when closed the outside screen is smaller its not important as you still get all the info that you need. Unfortuantely you cannot add a wallpaper to the outside screen but also thats not a big deal anyway.

The sound on this phone is brilliant. One of the main reasons why I returned my Soul u900 was because the volume was very poor and even when making a call I was struggling to hear. The w980 however has no trouble and is probably the loudest phone I have had ringing wise. Whats even better is if you wanted to you can set individual mp3's for texts to every different contact in your phonebook. Yes that right I don't just mean different ring tones for different contacts but also text tones also. How cool is that. I am giving the sound quality top marks as its so clear and crisp and even when using head phones its just like listning to you Ipod with superb clear sound.

Now I won't spend too much time going on about the internal memory of this phone as if you have already heard about it then you know this is the main selling point of the phone. In a nut shell it comes already fitted with an 8gb internal memory chip which if you know your numbers you will know thats a hell of a lot of mp3s. Infact lots and lots and thats without having to even buy a seperate memory card.

The design of the phone is very cool looking and opens and closes with ease, and I sort of get the impression that it wont damage to easily. The touchscreen buttons work fine and respond without problems. The normal buttons on inspection do seem to be spaced apart more than what I have been used to on previous phones but if your like me and text really fast then you will soon get used to them.

The menu's themselves are easy to navigate. I have never used a Sony phone before this one yet picked it up in no time after several minutes playing about with it.

As said the internal memory for your music tracks is the biggest selling point and the phone for this reason comes with some super cool features. Ever been in a club and heard a song play and always wonder what it was called. Well with this phone you have a feature called track ID recognition where you can record a few seconds of the track and you will get a text message telling you the name of the song and the artist. Whats more you can create your playlist and listen to all your tracks without having to have your phone open. If a song comes on that you want to skip then all you need to do is give your phone a little shake and it will jump to the next song. Very cool indeed.

Now the camera is only a 3 mega pixel camera but its not a big selling factor for me. The samsung I sent back was 5 and I see no difference so its just a number to me.

On a final note you may be wondering because of all the music stored on this phone then just how long do you get out of the battery. To answer that it depends really. I have only had this phone 4 days and only had to charge it last night and thats after non stop use. Now according to the instruction booklet I received with the phone you can get over 3 hours life of continues talk time. 12 days on standby mode but the most impressive of the lot is if your listning to all your music tracks you may be thinking if your heading out on a long journey somewhere its going to be a pain if your battery die's out after an hour so. Not a problem for the w980 as you get up to 16 hours battery life if just listning to your music tracks. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

I definently give this phone top marks and this is from someone who has always been loyal to Samsung.

I have no choice but to give a great big thank you to Samsung. Yes thats right I am thanking Samsung for giving me several problems over the last several months therfore leaving me no choice but to jump ship and join Sony.

An absoultely fantastic phone from Sony. Well done guys.

Summary: This is easily the best phone that I have ever owned. Top marks.

Frankly Sony always fascinates me with its design and mostly focused with mp3 or radio functions. Im still a Samsung fan but maybe in my next contract I will try Sony which also compatible with my laptop Sony Vaio. Well done.

A really nicely done review. Now, if you could just tell us a bit about the battery life on this phone, it would be perfect. Let me know if you add this here.
