Advantages: Amazing sound quality and great 8GB memory

Disadvantages: Clamshell/flip design

This is a superb handset and I've had it for over 5 months now. If you are an O2 customer you also get the option to own the slick red version. The sound quality is amazing and Sony seem to have improved the design of the earphones for this model.
The online images of the W980i make the handset appear wider and more chunky than it actually is: the handset is in fact not quite as wide as the old iPod mini and when folded fits very comfortably in any pocket. The dual screen format is also impressive; for example, when closed there is a walkman screen with touch sensitive controls on the outside, as well as the normal phone screen display when flipped open. There is also a funky light feature which pulsates in time to the beat of whatever music you are listening to and an interesting built-in application which can supposedly sense your mood and automatically choose the correct song to suit this.
The W980i has a massive 8G memory and very good battery life. My favourite gimmick is the built-in FM transmitter, so when you are on hoilday you can tune any radio to an unused FM frequency and play your favourite tracks straight from your phone like it's you are broadcasting your own personal radio station. The high-speed internet connection also means if you are on contract you can download full Mp3 tracks from Napster straight to your phone.
Many people will also be impressed by the motion sensor which enhances video gaming and you can also skip tracks in a 'shuffle' style by just flicking your wrist up or down. The only downside is that not everyone will like the flip/clamshell handset, but this is genuinely a modern twist on that style. All in all a slick, impressive mobile which personally I've had no problems with. (4.5 stars)

Summary: A slick, impressive walkman phone.
