Advantages: Feels well made, user friendly menus, camera

Disadvantages: Now outdated, joystick had problems

The T610i was my first Sony Ericsson mobile and until recently I've had Sony Ericssons ever since. There must be a reason for this huh?

Well the phone's quite chunky and certainly wasn't the reason I chose it although it's not particularly heavy, nor is it ugly I wouldn't have said. Just quite angular. It feels good in your hand though and the quality is good, the keypad doesn't deform and squeak when your texting like some other phones I've tried. The T610i has a standard keypad with a tiny 'joystick' (if you lived through the 80's/90's you'll understand) for naviagtion up, down, left and right.

The menus are typical sony ericsson, as I've said many times before, nice bold icons and really simple to use. The joystick is easy to manipulate in order to navigate around although I'd be dubious about how easy it'd be to use by somebody with larger hands or fingers than myself - it really is quite small. If it was a problem then the other keys can be used instead but I suppose that defeats the point of having it.

The phone has an integrated 319 x 288 pixel camera and the photos you've taken can be used as the background on the homescreen. The phone is also set-up to send and receive MMS.

The 2MB internal phone memory allows you to store a number of photos taken with the integrated camera. If you're the kind of person who stores lots of texts/picture messages though then the memory runs out quite quickly unfortunately. Battery life is good, I would charge mine every 3 days initially. As with all mobiles the battery memory seems to decline with age and I ended up charging every 36 hours or so by the time I stopped using this model - not too inconveniet.

At the time the ony negative I had was that the joystick became a little stiff to use towards the end and eventually stopped working in one direction. Sony Ericsson happily repaired this for me under warranty. Annoying but not the end of the world.

Overall a good, reliable (for the most part) phone that does what a mobiles supposed to with a few added extras. Very outdated now unfortunately but would still make a great choice for a child or as a back-up phone.

Summary: A great mobile in its day.
