Advantages: The colour screen, the camera, good use of bluetooth and picture messaging to share your media
Disadvantages: The joystick broke after a while, making using the phone infuriating
The Sony Ericsson T610 was a fantastic phone back in it's day. It was my first colour screen phone and my first camera phone, and really blew me away when I got it for my birthday! Luckily this was just before Christmas and so that Christmas became the first of many when my friends and I would take picture upon picture of each other during our Christmas celebrations!
The phone is solid in terms of performance and stability. The addition of the "joystick" in the centre was inspired, although after a lot of use (towards the end of my phone's life) the joystick started to stick and become unresponsive. But in the beginning and throughout my time using it, the joystick was invaluable to quickly move around messages, text, websites and of course photographs.
The phone came with the usual specifications, enjoying polyphonic ringtones, java games and bluetooth as standard. The use of bluetooth allowed easy sharing of photographs and ringtones, finding other devices without a problem and transferring quickly (well, for the size of the photographs at the time, it didn't take too long!).
The fact that so many java games are available on the internet to download made it perfect for killing time. Connection to the PC was easy, again through either bluetooth (if you had a dongle) or through the cable. PC synchronization was available too.
Infra-red was available too, but with the introduction of bluetooth infra-red wasn't used very often by myself or my friends. Who would spend time lining up their phones perfectly so the infra-red 'eyes' could see each other and start to transfer? One tiny knock putting them out of line with each other and you'd have to start the whole process again!
I only occasionally used the modem built in to the mobile phone but it worked well (although slow by today's standards).
Overall, this was one of many Sony Ericsson phones I owned and was exceptionally happy with. Up until recently I would only consider Sony Ericsson. In recent years however Sony Ericsson have gone down hill, releasing phones too late in to the market and not ensuring the quality of the devices they've been releasing. The Sony Ericsson T610 was the flagship phone that everyone wanted and showed just how good a phone can be, taking it beyond the call and texting to a whole new world of media-sharing fun.
Summary: Wonderful phone, will last a long time but when that joystick goes, it's time to move on and quick!
